Heads up on floating nut plates
« on: October 04, 2013, 11:54:28 AM »
Nothing bad here, I am a big fan of them and use them wherever I can (I hate holding wrenches on the back side).
On a floating nut plate where the nut is held captive by a small spring it is possible for a ham handed line mechanic when pressing too hard with the screw driver to push the nut past the spring and out the back of the plate. A gentile touch is recommended when using the smaller sizes.
Unless it's crazy, ambitious and delusional, it's not worth our time!

Oh, when I saw "floating nut plate" on Stupid Joke Friday, I thought this was about Jerry.
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.
