Thanks Ray.

The only important part now is Mike Cook's decision.

We just have to wait for that before Treit and Davenport can make their call.

I've been looking for a double deck OlD Maid card game to pass the time.

The last one looks almost like the porcupines have been at it except I can't see them venturing that far out on the salt.  :? :? :?

I might be wrong but I think that is the line of old telephone lines that Craig Breedlove barely missed and then ended up in the salt pond on his last run in 1964.  The interstate wasn't there then and they ran very close to what is now the truck stop and the brine he ended up in would of been about where the interstate is now by the potash plant if I'm guessing right.

Here is more....

.... and I think I've seen a youtube video on it also.

Someone else might have more detail,

After looking at the Sam Hawley site, I think (and so does PP) the poles shown there are these (at about the 1.5 mile mark) which cross the dike:

(I made that shot last year at the Shootout.)

I'm not sure if those are the Craig Breedlove poles, but I know where they are, Ray.  I use 'em as a landmark when I'm driving around at the end of the Int'l course - them and also the underground stream that crosses the course in the same general area.  Supposedly I've seen one of the old crossarms from a pole -- again, supposedly, a crossarm/pole that he hit with his car.  Is it really?  Who noze, these days.  It's a nice little story, though.

And not only are we waiting, but I hear there's a snowstorm in nw Sought Dakota.  The NoDak forecast isn't bad, nor is the Montana, but still -- take a look at the weather for just west of Yellowstone for a few days from now -- snow above 6100 feet.  And guess who goes through that neighborhood -- at about 6,800 feet?  I don't mind a bit of snow, but if I'm trying to make time -- the white stuff doesn't help.  It'd be okay if I had the snow tires on the pickup already -- but I don't. :-(

Jon, have you considered going a bit South? According to Yahoo Maps it's even shorter. Actually a bit longer but quicker. And if it misses the storm.....Wayno

Yup.  We've taken most of the various roads from home to the salt - including I-80 and I-70 and once even we crossed way down on I-10.  I prefer the northern route for the reduced traffic and somewhat more gentle hills.  Yes, I realise that driving out there this time of year will likely not involve lots of vacation travelers.  It's a few miles longer, I think -- like its 1,830 by way of North Dakota and Montana and Idaho - vs. Nebraska and Wyoming and about 1,800 even or so.  We've been taking I-94/I-90 for the past three or four years and are used to it - know which towns to call ahead of time to get motels, etc.

But -- here it is, nearly 6.45PM, and still nothing.  I just finished power washing the back steps -- thinking maybe if I spent some time doing chores that the word would come down from on high.  Nope. :?
