I don't think it rained in Wendover yesterday, unless it was a quick brush-by.  Right now I don't see any impending storms.  There's a nasty one (being called "Winter Storm Atlas") cruisin eastward over Doug & Barb's place in Montana (Salt Cat racing).  Pork Pie came back to Utah from visiting them a day early to avoid the storm (he goes back to Germany on Saturday) and said the wind and rain was pretty bad.

I've attached an image from wunderground.com showing the western US.  The "big one" is well north of the salt and the only question is whether the front that's shown just to the east of Salt Lake City dropped anything on the salt.

We've (Pork Pie and I) tentatively decided that we're gonna go out this afternoon (and take the rubber boat that's still in the back of the Burb) to see what the situation is.  We've got a week before the Shootout and things are by no means finalized.

As far as donations are concerned, people were kind enough to make very generous donations for the last recon trip, so I figger I owe y'all one.

What'a pair.

Thanks Ray and Porkie.......

You should be able to get there fasten with the raised speed limit.

Let Pork Pie drive. They won't bring him back from Germany over a speeding ticket.

Then again, he'd like it if they did bring him back.

Just don't let him post in German.

Thanks guys!  The storm totals since yesterday till now....

http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?product=NTP&rid=MTX&loop=yes

....show just trace amounts of rain north and south of the salt.  They do still show a possible 30% chance of showers today but maybe the salt dodged the bullet,

The Quote wasn't intentional.

Sorry to inconvenience you.

Next time just skip over it and find

humor in the Friday Funnies posts.

Apparently I am the only poster to make

a mistake and not correct it.

We just got back from the salt a little while ago.  Here's a short version of the report:

Temperature: low 50s.

Wind: 30-50 mph. (real frikkin windy.)

Salt condition:  Not bad.  Some moisture between the 3 and 4, the rest is hard and dry...almost.  We ran from the 2 mile marker, used Cook's mile posts as reference points.  We went out to the 11, maybe 11 1/4 where it was wet again.

Photos:  From Lands End.  The only standing water we saw was 2 small pools there.

Shot of the salt surface at the 2, hard, solid, smooth.

Pork Pie at the 10, salt hard, dry, smooth.

At the 11 1/4, wet, looks like it wasn't graded any farther and I didn't wanna sink the Burb up to its axles, so we chose discretion and headed back.

Longer report coming up when I get the photos on a server.

Bottom line:  For me, the wind was a bigger problem than the moisture.  But that's just me.

Some Photos I shot today are here:
http://raytherrat.smugmug.com/20131003

I'd put 'em here, but I'm too tired.  Need sleep.

Third image from the last is mile 11.  The tongue counts.  :)

The last image is past the 11 1/4 where I don't think it was dragged.

I've included 2 more images here.  I guess I'm not very observant, cuz I've never seen this line of pilings before.  I don't think they liked being in the salt very much.
