That reminds me of my first "real" job -- working at the university's public radio station.  When I was hired they said I'd be classed as an "exempt" employee.  There were exempt, non-exempt, and faculty. So I asked, thinking I was something cool by being exempt -- and was told that I was exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act.  In other words, I could work all the hours over 40 that I wanted to -- and they didn't have to pay me overtime.  Sheesh. . . :-o

I thought exempt meant you were salaried.  so you don't have to punch in and out........It is illegal in all states to not have you work more than the agreed number of hours.

Yes, I was salaried -- but I was also told the story about "no such thing as overtime".  I worked what hours needed to be worked.  Remember, though -- maybe the fact that it was in 1971 meant that the laws were different.  Whatever -- I had a fine time, recording all of the big (and small) name bands that showed up for concerts.  Pipe organ in a church, with a big choir?  Great experience.  I even got to do a remote with Wally Keskitalo at the Houghton County Potato Show.  Top that!! :cheers: :cheers:

Before I retired from the Guard I was AGR (Active Guard Reserve). I was considered essential then. Now I am a civilian consultant doing the same exact job as before, but now I'm considered Non essential.... Anyhow... I just signed up for unemployment for the very first time in my life. Not a great boost for my inflated ego :>) If this goes on for any length of time I may be opening my dreamt of Machine Shop earlier than I thought.

Smitty;

Be glad that "non-essential" does not mean the same thing as "expendable". In case anyone doesn't know what that means, read W.L. White's book "They Were Expendable", it's about PT boats in the Philippines early in WW II.

Frankly, I think the most "non-essential" people right now are working in Washington, DC. Best of luck to you.

I think this is getting off subject.

Of course it would stay more on subject if we got a salt report or some sort of warm fuzzy from Jr or Sr that if the BLM is still on furlough in a week the meet will still be held or not.  Some of us are in limbo, waiting to see if we should shift plans again or just throw in the towel for the year.  Of course maybe they are communicating to the principals, but something seems to be better than nothing.

OK folks, back on your heads, break's over  :cheers:

I looked at the Shootout website today and see Roxanne, the BLM lady, has said that the 10 - 14 dates will remain viable even if the shutdown continues.  And that means all we've got to do is get the track dry enough to go 400 mph.

I'll look forward to hearing one of the Cook gentlemen giving us an update as soon as possible.

Are we impatient enough to send our roving reporter.....Ray the Rat on another recon trip?

It is just impatience. We know that Cook will tell us as soon as we can.

Lets see what we fell about sending Ray again.

What do we say.  I'll vote with my Pay Pal.

I have very limited patience.

Lets make the call after noon Thursday.
