Possibly.  but they're only shuting down "non-essential" services.  Which sorta begs the question - If they're not essential, why do we have them?

Okay, it's not "possibly" anymore it's O-fi-shul.  BLM has pulled the permit for the 7-11 dates but (somehow) has re-issued them for the 10-14.  Sooooo, weather permitting we will give it a go, then.
Unless of course the Buck Passer in Chief (Harry T. is probably rollin gover in his grave) decides he needs some extra salt for one of his dinner parties.

I worked for a car company that would issue a memo before every holiday break that "all non-essential associates" can leave at 12:00pm.  All essential associates had to work until 5:00pm. They never told us who was and who was not essential. I never had the security or the stones to admit I was "non-essential" and thus worked until 5pm the eve of every holiday break for 25 years.

Let me guess. The early leavers, deemed to be "non-essential" in their opinion returned with no consequences.
Government employee mentality. I could not leave early because my ride home, my father, considered himself essential in his own business.

That reminds me of my first "real" job -- working at the university's public radio station.  When I was hired they said I'd be classed as an "exempt" employee.  There were exempt, non-exempt, and faculty. So I asked, thinking I was something cool by being exempt -- and was told that I was exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act.  In other words, I could work all the hours over 40 that I wanted to -- and they didn't have to pay me overtime.  Sheesh. . . :-o

I had a thought while outside watering.

If we were on the salt now, running the World Finals, would the government send in black helios to arrest us?

Depends, are the pilots of the black helicopters essential personnel or not?

They must be. They still get paid because they are military.

Due to the lapse in appropriated funds, all public lands managed by the Interior Department (National Parks, National Wildlife Refuges, Bureau of Land Management facilities, etc.) will be closed. For more information, FAQs, and updates, please visit www.doi.gov/shutdown.

Only in the last 5 or 6 years have we even seen a BLM person on the salt, now it is closed because they manage it... hopefully that means the miners can't process all the stuff they drug to the other side of the hiway while the BLM is out.  Bet not.

Inflict the most pain on the public... that is how this current regime runs the government when they don't get their give aways.  Glad the WW2 vets on the honor flights to DC just cut the yellow tape, pushed aside the barriers erected to close outside monuments like the WW2 Memorial and went in to look anyway.

not all military or military support civ are considered essential....

even some full time nat'l guard are furloughed....ie considered "non-essential"...

it is interesting how some nat'l park type locations....are closed off...considering many dont
require personnel for them to be accessed....

regardless...the American spirit wont be stifled...least of which includes the "hot rodder" spirit...

kudos' and thoughts with the shootout folks, racers, sponsors, families and THE COOK's.....
