If the Shootout is now scheduled for Monday, Oct. 7, is the drivers' meeting now scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday, Oct. 6?

Here's a "Heads up" for our friends coming to the Shoot out from the East:
Utah is actually increasing the speed limit from Exit 99 (Tooele) to the state line; now you can run 80 with no fear.
That is, if the signs are posted.
Won't save a lot of time, but a few minutes here and there can add up.

Long wide view of shop with sam Pondering corner.  Body still in green.

Swingarm pieces back from first machining.  Sam designs everything in CAD so his drawings can be uploaded to CAM machining.

New chassis pieces.  Aluminum lattice is water jet cut.

Sam is amazing!  It is ART!  Thanks for noticing.

He schemes all this and draws is and makes it........and then drives the liner.     He has farmed out pieces like the pulleys that are pretty exotic, and the water jet cutting and billet machining only because he does not have the equipment.  He fortunately has a shop next door where Joe does great CAM work and aluminum fabrication.  He knows what transmission, suspension, MoTec guys to trust.

His MoTec system for example measures all engine functions and all suspension funtions and measures everything you can imagine.  Even has GPS and HD camera in the cockpit to monitor Sam!

It's going to be almost impossible to achieve todays quality with a cutting torch and a bench grinder.

When I visited with Sam in early 2012, he was still imagineering how everything would work in the front with the tanks.  Additional weight is needed to offset the amount gained at the rear with Weismann gearbox and a few other items changed/added.

Thanks for posting of the pictures!

Yeah. You need modern stuff like I've got. My mill is a 12" disk sander and my band saw is one of those HF hand held jobs clamped to my bench.  I'm obviously not in the same class as those guys but doggonit I'm running.  Wayno

That is very neat stuff but it is kind of a sad note that racing is so hi-tech now, and moved away from the good old hot rodding like us racers did in the past and still do now too
