Sam,
I plan on going out to check the courses sometime next week.  We most likely will make a decision on which courses to use a few days prior to WOS.

From Vesco's Twitter:

@teamvesco: #Turbinator 2 ran a second time at 247 mph. Hit a coursse marker causing minor body damage. Will work on fuel pressure issue for next meet

"Next meet"???  I wonder if that'll be WoS, Cook's Shootout, or WF.

Next meet is BUB, we begin next weekend. I hear entries are up and many over seas riders along with a couple of liners. Looking forward to a great M/C week.

I was referring to the next meet for Turbinator.

I realize that Bub is the next meet on the calendar, but I very seriously doubt if Turbinator will be there.

I certainly like your idea of requiring passengers on sidecars, though.  Without a passenger, perhaps sidecars should just be considered tricycles!  Not that that's a bad thing, since the speed record for a tricycle is considerably higher than anybody ran at Speedweek this year!

Also very anxious to see Turbinator run again, and yes I continue to be a strong proponent of real sidecars with real passengers. I appreciate the engineering that goes into some of the machinery that runs in the S/C class Speedweek but the dinky platform on a wheel on a stick is just not acceptable to this traditional sidecar racer. Thank goodness we are fortunate to have different venues where we can all exercise our passion for speed.

First post since I got back from Bonneville.

I watched as J.Hotnuts went by me on Course #1, everything looked good and sounded good, then for some reason the car started drifting and went into a barrel roll, then end over end. Pretty violent crash. I am glad he is doing OK and did not get hurt worse than he did. Sorry about the loss of his racecar.

While at the Motel I heard about JonA and Stainless's car making it to impound. I was very happy for them. I did not go out to the salt the next day until around noon, then was informed about the bad news. I am glad to hear that Stainless is doing OK physically, I am sorry for the loss of the car to both Stainless and JonA.

I thought the announcers did a better job as the meet went on. One thing I noticed is some times they had a hard time reading what the racers put on the entry forms. This has also been a problem in the years past for the people who do the trophies. So I think this is one area where the racers have to step up and make their writing more readable.

Tom G. counting on you to bring more detail oriented info from the scene ..:)

Joe,

Sorry, I walked out the door after my last post, so I never saw this post until now. I did not bring my computer with me, and I don't have a smart phone, so Sorry I was no help on reporting from the salt. Next time I will be sure to bring my computer with me. Again sorry for your Brother and Stainless's loss, but glad Stainless will be OK.

DeSotoman...the tire cop who wants US to stop talking but he can't.

John,

I am no tire cop just was answering Joe's post, explaining better what I was talking about in my previous post.

Tom G.

Tom...before shootin your mouth off about wide tires only being rated to 300 mph. you shold have checked

closer on the specs of Goodyear Eagle Land Speed Tires.  NONE are rated over 300.

  Tom the expert

            JL222

John,

I am no expert, and really don't think I am shooting my mouth off, (sorry you do, I still respect you) but for general information, I did see the ratings on all the Goodyear Landspeed Tires. There are 500+ mph Skinny tires, no they are not Goodyears, they are Mickey Thompson Tires, (M/T) and that is what I was talking about.

Tom G.

More food for thought, not putting Rob on the spot only posting his finding for his car:

The 2291 wide tires did not work very well for us. They did accelerate very good to about 220 then they became a bit evil to drive on. Put skinnys back on and had much better results.

SSS,

I think there would be value in having a Heading for LSR Tires, in the Tech Information Section of this site. All of the information posted in various places on this website about tires is useless to the new guy starting out, and eventually IMO would end up being posted under a Tire thread which anyone could go to for answers about others experiences. A donation is on the way.

Tom G.

PS. Thanks to the SCTA and all of the volunteers who make Speedweek possible. Thanks to RTR for the great photo's and commentary on this thread. A donation is on the way Ray.

I love the USA. How much longer will we be a free nation?

The Speed Demon gets down the course with no problem because of Downforce. That car has a bunch of it making it very stable. That equates to Drag that takes HP to overcome, which is why Mr. Dutwieler comes in.

that car looks pretty darn neutral to me..... i dont see where you see downforce...... Turbinator is #111 not #444

I wonder if Speed Demon has got traction control figured out, 323 in the 21/4 :-o where other cars with wings and fast
speeds in the past can't get a decent time anywhere.

Trimmers, maybe your son wants to ride in a sidecar.  He would be a chimp off the ol' block.

It seems that you and Trimmer have pretty much decided for the rest of us what side car racing should be.  You derided a side car on a stick.  There is no such thing.  The requirements are quite stringest to pass tech.  Three point mounting, not a single stick as you suggest, a platform large enough for a person to sit on, and a detachable 130+lbs. weight, which replaces the weight of a human being.  The human has an advantage over a fixed weight, as the human is mobile, and moves his weight to assist the driver of the motorcycle.  The advantage to the side car racer definately goes to the one with the monkey.

A real side car normally has a seat, a windowshield, a trunk for storage and so on.  I don't think your "real" side car has any of these things.  Just my opinion.

Yea, Tom wide tires do not like loose conditions or marbles. Glad I missed this meet as even the skinnys couldn't
hook :-D  And were not above using skinnys if conditions require them.

Looks like the future is traction control

No hard feelings Tom, just sticking up for the fattys and it sounded like only the WIDE Goodyear LSR tires were rated
to 300mph.

It would be interesting to know, what speeds the Goodyear LSR tires have been tested to on the Great White Dyno.
