Gossip from the pits.  Where to start?  Rob Freyvogel threw a tread on one of his rear tires and asked if I'd help find one.  In searching around, I found Robbie Cohn who told me that the salt is BAD.  That was backed up by Ed Van Scoy.  I found the tire next door in Keith Turk's pit...and they'd spun and blown the motor.

A transmission heard on the radio:  "Tell the racers that the center of course 1 is torn up already, but the sides are good."  Another rumor states that there's been a meeting to discuss what to do with the courses.

Pork Pie just stopped by to tell me that he saw a video of Stainless' crash and it was one of the worst he's ever seen.

I don't intend to cast a pall over the whole meet, but there have been what seems like a record number of spins, several crashes but so far nothing worse.  I'm sure gonna be sayin some prayers for a safe remainder of the meet.

Thanks, bro.  I enjoyed the chat, too.  Hotrod (Larry) started a thread on starting line etiquette and did a very good job of explaining what's acceptable and what's not.  In the military, we used to say, "there's always that 10 percent that doesn't get the word."  Seems to be the opposite here.  When Pork Pie stopped by here (I'm at the 2 on course 1) he told me about a couple of goofballs that had followed him out past the 5 with no CB, no Press sticker in the car window but had vests.  He told me that he got sorta adamant about turning 'em around, at one point suggesting that he'd get in touch with Joann Carlson who could find someone to escort them off the salt...permanently.

In the last coupla hours we've had at least 3 drivers get lost and cross courses 2 and 1 from course 3.  I dunno why we haven't had something bad happen.

Anyway, here are 2 cars that made it past me without a spin or turnout:
