What happened to Waldo Stakes
« on: July 31, 2013, 11:03:44 AM »
Waldo Stakes used to post monthly updates on his website and regularly get interviewed by journos for their "who's doing what and when" LSR articles. The updates stopped over a year ago (unless they moved to another website) and things have gone very quiet on the "designing for 2,000mph" front. Anybody know what he's doing - or not doing?

Cheers

Ed,
so with Richard delayed by a year and Rosco still building, it's all down to you then  :-)

I found waldo. just got off the phone with his son tone. waldo is alive and well. he is still in apple valley working on the car which is 80 percent done and like everyone else is looking for more funds to finish the project. the reason that no one has heard much from him is that the updates take away from the building time. if anyone wants to check out his website its sonic wind lsrv.

Thanks for checking and good news that he's still working on it. "Looking for funds to finish the project" - now where have I heard that before? Almost everywhere from everybody  :-) Bluebird designer Ken Norris always spoke about the four Ms of record breaking and why they all had to come together to achieve success - Man, Machine, Medium, Money. In other words, the right person in the right vehicle running on the right surface and with sufficient funds to make it happen. True then, true now.

Cheers

It's really 4 M's and a G.  The G stands for Government!

Pretty sure he's laying low after working with the Flat Earth dude.
Have you seen Rocketman: Mad Mike's Mission to Prove the Earth Flat?

Of course the first M needs to be changed, as it is no longer correct usage.

I'm skeptical about the "80 % finished".  I wish Waldo luck on the project.  One article I read about it suggested
that he plans/wants to go 2000 mph.  That had me laughing and shaking my head.  Since Bloodhound is once
again in financial trouble, I don't think they are ever going to go 1,000 mph (or seriously continue planning to).
They may have lowered their target to breaking the existing LSR by going about 800 mph, and I hope this does
happen.  And I hope Waldo eventually does break the existing LSR.  And Rosco, too.  It's of course too late for
Ed, Jesse, and (I suspect also) Craig, although I've always hoped his project would bear fruit.

80 percent done in 2013?  I find that a bit hard to believe.  I believe the part about him wanting more funds, and I wish him well.

It appears the only one left still actively preparing to go really really fast (1,000mph) is Rosco in Oz.
