fire resist fuel lines for motorcycle
« on: July 08, 2013, 06:04:26 PM »
fuel line must be fire proof... I understand this to mean that it can be the braided hose.. but only the braided hose that uses the JIC type fittings and not the type that is an overbraid secured by a hose finnisher. ive seen a sleeve that goes over the existing fuel line and some that looks like regular black fuel hose but is fire resistant or proof.... anyway my question is to do with a nitrous install, do the lines for the nitrous have to meet the same requirements? WON use a sort of plastic/rubber type hose. i know others like NOS and NX use the braided lines but obviously you have an extra fuel line with any nitrous system... unless its a dry install

what would be best without having to switch all my lines to the JIC braided type.

i was thinking this for the fuel tank, to carb

and would this be ok sleeved over the nitrous lines

Big-D:

I tried following those eBay links - but got only a "no longer listed" response.  Have you any other photos?  And, while I'm at it -- just where in the U.K. are you located?

search for fire sleeve
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Vehicle-Parts-Accessories-/131090/i.html?_sac=1&_nkw=fire+sleeve
and watch your sizes, i usually find one size bigger is a easier fit

are these secured with jubilee clips? my nitrous lines are roughly 2mm diameter, i doubt ill get a clip small enough and dont want to fail tech for cable securing with cable ties

one other thing, what about the nitrous line? I know its an atomiser and isnt flammable but in the event of a fire could be a hazard. what would scta say?

you can see in this pic (the blue and red nylon looking hose's) are the ones im unsure as to how to sleeve with them being so thin

its not so much what to do... they need to be sleeved, but more what scta says is a suitable way of securing the fire resistant sleeve

Weird, it worked for me........
I just clicked on it, it brought up my home email and I sent a message to myself through the official email.... which I received.
Maybe that doesn't work 'cross the pond.

Per rule  7.B.25, all un-valved fuel lines must be fire-proof or have a fire-proof covering.
Per rule 7.B.21, NOS systems are considered part of the fuel system.

Any gas or fuel lines down-stream from the fuel cut-off do not have to be fire-proof.
That is just the minimum safety requirement.
On all my bikes I use fire sleeve.
Steel braided lines are not considered fire-proof. They have been proven to fail.

If you have any more questions, send them to me at the email address above.

I bought fireshield sleeves from McMaster-Carr. Bought plenty and cut them long and let them "spring" back to cover fittings. You could always carry a few radiator hose style clamps if anyone thinks the seal for fire is not good enough............Good Luck
