I have been told that the kilometre records were set by a different driver of the Lola Drayson B12/69 EV on the second day of the attempt.

this new classes count also for the turbine categorie - which means that Don Vesco still got the fastest turbine car under the new FIA weight system - but also that Donald Campbell got his turbine record from 1964 back....the Bluebird CN7 was much heavier than Don's Turbinator.

FIA Category A is for "special automobiles" - AKA wheeldriven cars;

For Solar powered cars; electrical engined cars; turbune engined cars; steam engined cars; hybrid engined cars and fuel cell engine cars there are now 11 weight classes.  [This matches the number of FIA 2 stroke, four stroke, diesel cycle, rotary and hydrogen reciprocating, engine capacity classes].

The classes go in 499 kg steps: Class 1 - up to 499 kg, Class 2 - 500 to 999 kg, Class 3 - 1000 to 1499 kg, 1500 to 1999 kg, ............. then continuing to 4500 to 4999 kg with finally anything over 5000 kg as class 11.

Trust this assists.  All 'details' for World land speed record attempts are on the FIA website. www.fia.com

Jonny Cocker (his real name but may be scrambled by the SSS machinery) achieved an average of 205.941 mph for the kilometre distance on day two.

My flawed math may have something to do with the decimal vs.. metric system debate.

So British, never a mention that the "real" absolute electric car land speed record is held by a bunch of US students from Ohio State, no the "New world land speed record for electric cars was set by an English car". No mention that the Brit record is for a different weight class and that the "real" absoluet speed record is 110mph faster!! No wonder the Irish, the Scots and almost all of the old colonies despise Britain. Rex

The reporting on the succesful attempt is by the individual magazines, newspapers, webforums, etc.  If they choose to ignore the details then there is nothing the team can do. By all means Dodge the press, but try to avoid generalisations arising from a few press reports. Unless the colony over that big pond has people upset by 'losing' a 29 year old speed record.

[The FIA World record of the Ohio State University - Venturi Automobile team car driven by Roger Schroer was achieved in 2010 at 307.905 mph. The students and their industry supporters build very fast cars.]

Malcolm,
I agree with Rex. We've heard this type of drivel before from both sides of the pond. If accurate reporting and journalistic integrity can't be displayed by the writers / promoters then the verbal heat received from others who follow said accomplishments is just.
This coming from members of the colony who sent the chaps with the red coats packing about 237 years ago tomorrow, for about the same reasons....

Actually, we didn't send them packing on July 4, 1776.  That didn't happen until after Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown on October 19, 1781.

We set a couple of FIM records a few years ago.  One of our locals, in her innocence,  wrote it up as us setting "the" motorcycle land speed record.  One word makes so much difference.  We had a laugh about it and that was the end of the matter.  I see Malcom's point.  We can only control what we say and not what anyone else does.

I can assure everyone on this forum that Paul Drayson met every single rule and requirement to achieve his FIA class record. I've been his guest at a number of road races and salute his professionalism and dedication to hard core racing with an emerging/evolving power source. However, I did tell him that had he brought his fancy Lola green machine to Bonneville he doubtless would have recorded bigger numbers simply because he would not have had is eyeballs rattled out of his head form that "whoopi-d-do" old runway.

It ought to be mentioned, Drayson is a big supporter of the Bloodhound project and was instrumental in helping get the concept initial traction. He parks all that "Lord" stuff when he heads for the paddock.

Jonny Cocker (his real name but may be scrambled by the SSS machinery) achieved an average of 205.941 mph for the kilometre distance on day two.

The official list of FIA records is now available on the FIA web site.  Excerpt below.

A couple of points of interest (to me at least):

  • The slightly slower "records" set in June 2013 are not recognised.  So we are denied the pleasure(?) of seeing Jonny Cocker's name up in lights.
  • The FIA appear to have a new policy of publishing the time recorded as well as speed.  If only they would apply this retrospectively and publish times for all historical records.

Anyone know if the Drayson team might return to Bonneville this year?

It would be up to the team or the sports governing body in the UK to comment upon the June speeds, which were published the day after the attempt.

No mention of the Drayson team yet on the forward listing of entries for the 2014 Shootout (see a separate thread on this forum). They may be busy in September with the e-racer they expect to be running in the FIA electric single seater formula.
