Really a tough call, the Gate? there all day, collecting the cash, getting the insurance form signed, repeating the same directions over and over? Tech? the good news/bad news crew. Starting Line? work all day, put up with the fumes, no lunch, no breaks, unless something breaks..Timing Slips? always smiling and helpful, Line Stewards? just like parking control, thankless job...Ok everybody gets a Gold Star!

I've done all of the jobs that Mike lists - save being a line steward.  And those jobs were at Maxton seeing as how I haven't been to Wilmington yet.  But I expect the tasks are about the same.

So I'd guess the line steward to be the one most deserving of praise and the gold star.  The steward up at the line has to put up with racers that are all dressed and ready to run (or should be).  They're all pumped, the vehicle is ready and the engine is warmed (or it should be) and every one knows the HE should be the next one to go.  Jumping spots in the line, keeping spectators under control, telling the racers when there is a hold on the course and the racers will have a wait for XX minutes -- all of those things, and way more, I'm sure, are what makes me think that line steward-ing would be very much difficult.  And that, friends, is my opinion.  Over to you.

Slim, don't forget the ear ringing from the open headers for two days on the starting line!

Can't race if someone does not check you in, can't race if someone does not set up the course. Can't race if someone does not tech you in. Can't race if someone does not manage the data. Can't race if someone does not get the liability waiver signed. Can't race without race officials, Can't race without the venders. Can't race without a contract to use the facility. Can't race unless Tonya and Donna say you can... sorry Keith and Joe. So my favorite is the whole ECTA village.

Looking forward to finally getting up there in '14.

EVERY volunteer is precious! We can not do anything without all of them. My biggest issue is we don't have enough of them so they get worked to death every meet!

Joe it's pretty much the same in any volunteer organization. 90% of the work is done by the same 10% ,time after time

Why not use conscript labor like El Mirage does... ok minor variation, offer a spot at the head of the line for 4 hours work...  You might find a center of the track spotter across from the tower....
just a thought...

Too many to choose from. The people that set up/tear down, gate/trailer/line people, all of, "free will".
Rock on!

We totally agree with others = There are no "real favorites" -  They are all our favorites, the volunteers. Without them, we would not have a place to go and play.
There is no "I" in Team -  To co-ordinate an event like this takes a dedicated "Team"
I would vote for all the Volunteers that help make this event happen, you all are a favorite in my book.   :-D

when I started this thread I had complete faith in all my fellow racers to take notice and point out how much all the volunteers do, everyone sees things a little different. including the volunteers.

I personally do not have a true favorite, as well as not having a least favorite. with the exception of Al. he can be both at the same time and that takes talent. LOL!

I urge all to help if and when they can, no matter how small of a contribution, trust me it helps.

so my hats off to all!

who would have guessed it would take so long to go so fast for such a short time?
