World’s Fastest Man on a Motorcycle Acquires Rights to Houston Mile Top Speed Competition

Hennessey Performance continues primary sponsorship of the Houston Mile top speed competition

(Houston, TX) – June 17, 2013 – Bill Warner, aka “Mr. 300,” owner of the Wild Brothers Motorsports motorcycle land speed racing team, has acquired the rights to the Houston Half Mile Shootout. Warner’s new company, National Mile Racing (NMR), will introduce a number of improvements for the popular Aero’s & Autos Half-Mile Shootout,  in addition to introducing two new one-mile competitions at the current location.

The inaugural Houston Mile competition is scheduled for October 19 & 20, at Houston’s Ellington Airport. On-line registration will open August 18, and is limited to the first 150 registrants for both automobiles and motorcycles.

Warner and NMR bring a racer’s perspective to racing event management devoted to providing speed enthusiasts and fans with unforgettable top speed racing events in a fun and safe environment. Warner is the first and only racer to break the 300 mph barrier on a motorcycle and is known within racing circles as “Mr. 300.”

“I've been very fortunate on the track throughout my racing career, but the best part has been all the great people I’ve met along the way. I want to show my appreciation to them with events utilizing their suggestions and ideas, as well as mine,” said Warner.  “I'm confident the new Houston Mile will reflect this collective input with memorable events for competitors, sponsors and fans," added Warner.

Local high performance specialists, Hennessey Performance (HPE), will present both the new Houston Mile events. “Hennessey Performance is proud to continue its association with the Houston Mile by agreeing to a long term sponsorship with NMR.  We are confident Bill Warner and NMR will turn the Houston Mile into a premier speed event for Texas,” said Dave Golder, GM of HPE.

Ellington Airport is located 15 miles south of Houston, off the I-45/Gulf Freeway exit. For Houston Mile event details and registration information, visit www.HoustonMile.com

Seems like the Houston Mile deserves its own sub-forum here.

Finally there's a mile race less than an hour away from my shop.

Way to go to all the folks involved with this project.

I can't think of a better guy to run the show than Bill.

Judging by the satellite images on google, it looks to be pretty decent. Giving another couple hundred yars after the return road. Then dirt/grass then a street.

Will it be ran on the north/south runway or the north east/southwest strip?
The n/s looks to be a lot better for spectator viewing and can run from either direction. Most likely wind will be out of south. So run north for some help from nature.

I took a look on Google Earth and the N/S runway is longer too. About 11,000 vs 9200
Plenty of shutdown room, that's really nice if you need it.

I'm sure Bill's management plan, just like his racing, will be super organized. Like Ohio, racers will benefit from someone who knows what it is like to be on the starting line. Best of Luck Bill.         Larry

With the sad passing of Bill, will this event still go on? I am new to the game and was always impressed with the motorcycles, not knowing Bill was the fastest of em all. Condolences to the family and friends. What does this event need to continue? And how can we contribute?

I was Bill's "right-hand" man for the Houston Mile.

Although things are in a state of flux with his recent passing, to my knowledge it is very unlikely the Oct Houston Mile will be held as planned.

Please stay tuned,
Karl

Hey Karl,

Somehow , I knew you had to be involved with the Houston event.

First of all, let me say how sorry I am about the passing of Bill.  In the grand scheme of things, the cancellation of the Houston event is nothing compared to the tragedy of losing Bill.

Keep us informed.

Tom

I got an email last night from the folks at J&S Matus Motorsports stating that they were taking over the running of the Houston Mile starting in 2014.  These are the people that put on the Texas Mile.  They will now have 5 events a year with 2 mile events at both Houston and Beeville and the 1/2 mile event in Houston according to the email.
