How about one of the smoke kits they have for 1/4 scale r/c airplanes. Check at your local hobby shop.
The speed that you wish to achieve is only limited by the depth of your wallet.

How about a cheap smoke machine from eBay with a funnel over its outlet hooked to a small tube?

Put dry ice and water in a 5 gallon bucket and then put a hole in the lid for a hose and pip it where you want the smoke to go.  Tony

some good leads there fellas, thanks, keep 'em coming,,,

its one thing to produce the smoke, but another to get a steady constant delivery at the wands end for a reasonable amount of time to be able to observe in detail whats happening in/with the flow, :-),,,

Won`t help you at all...But...when I was just a young floydjer, I soldered a petcock with a handle extension to a 5 # coffee can and screwed it to the firewall of my `63 Impala SS.. Hooked a hose to the intake manifold and filled the can with ATF......Good lord does that make smoke.
I`d never advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...But they work for me.
