Steve, one thing that helps is to have the gauges centered and high in the dash so you only move your eyes a little bit down to see them and do not need to look to the side.  Also, large gauges farther away mean you need to shift your focus less to read them.

I'm going with warning lights as much as possible so that I don't have to shift focus, they will be just below my eyeliner when looking straight ahead.
Being a single track vehicle I don't want to look inside any more than I have to.

That's nice, Nathan!

After talking to the T-man, he helped me select something a little more "pedestrian" for my first LSR vehicle.

I'm planning to use my Garmin 500 - a GPS based cyclocomputer.   I'm planning to use a handlebar-style mount, and strap it directly to the cage in front of me.

I might have to set it up to also display my heart rate, while capturing the data on a GoPro camera.  That should be entertaining.

A knock light installation is shown on the team go dog go modified partial streamliners build diary.  One post a was today and the other one will be tomorrow.  These lights detect detonation knock and the onset of other engine rattles.  My instruments this year will be a tach and this light.  The light glowing red means it is time to pull in the clutch and end the run.

Actually the HR data is a good idea. Will help you monitor yourself and see if you need to relax more! I would like to se som heart rates from guys in those spin videos :-o

Im thinking a blood pressure reading while on a spin would be cool too ( says the one who has only spun cars out on the street and never at the speeds obtained on the salt  :-D )

I thought that kind of stuff was measured by the size and density of the stain in your drawers. :-o

My resting heart rate is not particularly low (in the 70's).  I'm kind of a high-strung individual all-around.  I can hit 180 bpm with pretty fair regularity in a bike race, but can't hold it that high for long.  For a Time Trial, I can hit about 170 bpm for 20-30 mins.

If I can remember to bring all the goodies, I'll post HR data from the salt.
