Motorcycle Streamliner - Windshields
« on: June 11, 2013, 05:00:02 PM »
On page 128 of the 2013 SCTA rulebook, under section 7.H.7  WINDSHIELDS, it states that it must provide 120* of adequate horizontal forward vision.

Two questions.

#1  -  Does that included side windows too?  Like, it the canopy is forward of the rider a ways, and they can still see out the sides without moving their head.

#B  -  Does this rule take out being able to have a tire in front of the driver's field of vision?  I would 'assume' yes.

The rule doesn't state "full 120 deg". There are a lot of vehicles with blowers or scoops taking up part of that 120 but I would think running blind in the front would be a bitch to aim & probably not go down well with SCTA.
This is a question you should take with Tech, you can only get opinions here.

The tyre blocking vision issue is the reason for the rule.
Look for older pictures of Streamliner bikes and a few of them had riders not being able to see straight ahead; Sam Wheeler's yellow bike, Dennis Manning's Harley powered Streamliner.

A lot if the current bikes have a stay or pillar that is inside the 120 degree arc.

It's a narrow margin that meets the 120 degrees of vision requirement for streamliner bikes and the 3" of helmet setback at the same time.
