Went through the rear end and installed new axles, bearings, studs and c-clip eliminators. It has 7 5/8" ring gear and 3.08 ratio.not concerned with the strenght yet as we aint hitting it with a bunch horsepower. When we start getting up there in HP we will install a "metric" 9".

SInce T-tops are a pain in the arse for these type of cars with having to install hold down tabs or straps and installing a cage in the "vast expanse" of the interior is no fun, the roof had to go. Finding a coupe roof was not as easy as I thought. As it would turn out, I must have been living right, as a junk yard not 5 min. from the house had one with my name on it.

While laying out the roll cage base design I installed subframe connectors. These are fully welded and tied into the trans mount subframe stubs. We also wanted to get the "legs" of the cage as close to the rockers as possible. I was not happy with the idea trying to bend plate steel to the convoluted shape of the rocker side and floor then welding it to the thin floor sheet metal. To that end Inoyched the inne wall of the rockers along with the floor to the subframe connectors. I then welded a section of 1.5 x 3.5 x .120 wall tubing to the rocker, floor and subframe connector. I did this front and rear for the 4 main legs.

Cage stuff...
The rear down bars and cross bars mount to a 2"x4"x.120 wall that runs the width of the rear and welded to the subframe. where the bars are connected is directly over the subframe.

and some more cage stuff. Thanks to most everyone on this forum, this is where I got most of the ideas, and Joe Timney for letting me bounce these ideas off of him.

This project severs a couple of purposes
1. learn the fine art of landspeed racing
2. Get Amy to her personal goal.
3. Do the above as inexpensively as possible while maintaining a high level of safety and reliability.

As far as inexpensive goes, the engine in this beast is a barter piece. My "son" needed some help swapping the chassis on his 72 chevy short bed pick-up. The engine in it seemed fresh and the "new" chassis had an engine in it he wanted to keep soooo, we swapped my drive way and teaching abilities for the "old" engine. I only made a few improvements to the engine to give it a little more grunt. After doing a little research on the thing I found that it is a create replacement 260hp made in mexico, yep mexico.

Last year we ran the little burito with some minor improvements, the flex plate was major poo, needed a SFI unit anyway. Added a torker II intake and a 650 Holley, MSD distributer and 6aL box and a set of long tube headers. I knew the engine ran well before we got it and I was in a hurry as April was coming on fast and we were determined to make the first race at the new venue. Amy did great and the car did well, 137.66 in the mile. The car had overheating issues, I would get those sorted out this year.
