Speed Reader - Amy's '91 Camaro C/GALT
« on: May 25, 2013, 10:12:16 AM »
Well we have been building on this thing for over a year and decided to post a build thread so y'all could see what we got and where we are going. I have learned quite alot for this forum and thank all of you for contributing to my education. I have always dreamed of having/building some sort of race car and particapating in said activity but poor dicisions as a youth and life in greneral kept me pointing in the wrong direction.

After a couple of attempts at marriage  and 10 yrs. in a rock band+a day job my two true loves came together. Amy and LSR. As we have no children we have the time to travel around and experiance life and the this great country. With that being said, on one weekend about 6yrs ago I started looking the internet for something to do or somewhere to go and I came across the ECTA at Maxton. As I was interested in Landspeed racing since I was a kid I suggested to Amy that we go and check it out.

Amy is from Buffalo,NY, so showing her around my home state of NC was a good thing. So off to Maxton we go. I think it took me about 3 nano seconds to decide that this is something I wanted/needed to take part in. Although I didn't realize it at the time Amy got the bug as well. We spent a saturday at the monster mile and when I convinced Amy that it was time to head home I soon realize that she was quite mad. She didn't want to leave! I have created a monster and a race partner, thats cool.

We got a rule book, joined the ECTA and it was on. We started our learning curve running her stock "Little Red Kia", and thats right SHE is the driver. My time will come.

The Kia got killed by a Silverado and the "real" race car build would begin...

Here is what we started with, '91 Camaro Rs street thing that some guy ran in a local club of some sort.

Frank, glad you finally started this thread!

Just a little reasoning for the name. Amy is a school teacher with her masters in reading education. She prefers to teach the little ones K thru 5th. Shame some of them thar smarts won't rub off on me. :-P

Frank and Amy,

Glad you FINALLY started this build diary!  :-D
Over the years, it's been really fun watching you guys stepping it up and having fun in the process.
From the KIA at Maxton (if I remember correctly 100-105 range) to this Camaro in Wilmington at 137.
Amy's doing a GREAT job driving and your doing a GREAT job tuning. Now comes more HP ad higher speeds and you guys WILL get there.
Like you've told me several times, if you need help from me I'm only 2 1/2 hrs away.

Gregg

Thanks for the offer Gregg. Ya, the Kia was an experiment in putting areo on a brick see'in as how there was nothing I could do to bump the HP except a cold air kit I put together. There are no "High po" parts for a kia spectra. Top speed was 116.xx with a gracious tail wind. :-D

I found this neat lttle cross trans mount cross member that will accomodate a couple different transmissions and incoporates a drive shaft safety hoop and the front mount for the adjustable torque arm. Amy likes red. :-D
