I haven't built a motor in over 30+ years so, instead of picking parts here and there and hoping things work we went the "kit" route. We picked up an Edelbrock top end kit. they are "matched" parts that are suposed to produce 435hp on a mild 350. Since the burrito has 8.5:1 comp. the hp numbers will not be quit that. Maybe next year with the rotating assembly up grade the hp numbers should up there.

The heads in this kit are Edelbrock performer E-Tec 170's. specs are as follows

170cc intake ports
70cc exh
64cc chambers
1.46" springs, .575" max lift roller cam
assembled with screw in rocker studs and guide plates
These should do for now. When it time yo up grade these will find a new home in another project. If I don't destroy them first. :-o

Frank, that is a good starting point. I would rather race than replace parts and constantly tune a temperamental race car. I went 167 at Maxton with a pretty mild D motor with a tunnel ram. Just fueled it up every third run. Had a blast. The second trip I "got smart" and changed a bunch of stuff looking for 175. Worked on the car more than I raced and then it only ran 166.

The intake is an Edelbrock RPM air gap vortec. We will more than likely change it to a victor intake next year with the other up grades.

cam specs:

.539/.548 lift. 296*/ 300* avd. dur. I got an edumacation on checking and re-checking with the degree wheel. I do believe I got pretty good with the device.

Add 1.5 roller rockers, 1 3/4" Dougs long tube headers, 750 carb. Stud girdles and bits and pieces.

Thanks BR. Reliability and HP gain is our current modus op. Get Amy going a little faster each meet then pick brains, ask questions then make improvements for the next meet. I do realize that to achieve our ultimate goal we will have to go BIG at some point but we are still in the learning curve. Local resources are slim to none. Tuners, bikes, roundy rounders and about 80,000 U.S. Marines so I relie on this forum for info and guidance. The fellow in the attached photo helping stuff the motor in the car is my sudo-son Johnathan Perez. He adopted me about 15 yrs.ago as he comes from a fatherless family, good kid, into crotch rockets,in a good way.

Tadaa. Motor is in. 1 3/4" headers went in easier than I thought. If I could have gotten the car up about 3' they would have been a breeze. I hate crawling around on driveway concrete, getting too old for that. Now to scratch up some dyno cash to see what we have.

Since my carb tuning skills are most good for the street I decided that a little modern tech was in order to try to get the most out of what we have. Found this neat litle A/F ratio meterthat will interface with a master data logger. As a stand alone unit it has programmable features and records ratios by event, lap or time. This ought to help when we get the beast to the dyno.

Gotta love the A/F meter... They're
so cheap anymore, and really a big
help with tuning... Looking forward
to Amy getting that C license!

Thanks Gregg, since I've never had kids, JP helped my grow as a person as well. When he was young (12 or 13) he would come over and talk about his problems so I helped him and he made me think before I opened my yap to responde to his question. We live about a 1/4 mile from the ocean so I got him into fishing as that was what I was into at the time. Then he got all grode up and discovered girls, cars and motorcycles, the down fall of every man. He's a good kid, has a steady jod at a motorcycle dealership  and a real purty girlfriend who just got back from Afganistan. She's a Marine. Oooo Rah.

Thanks Luke. We really need to hit that mark to stay on track. Otherwise next year will be double hard on the wallet. Might have to sell a guitar or three, maybe a couple of amps. :-o The cats are out of the question.

That motor seems healthy enough as it sits... have you considered N2O?
Dave Matyjasik is very knowledgable on the subject, lives in NC and may
even have some "spare" parts lying around for a good price... He's a wiz
at jetting the fuel and juice appropriately as well. He's greenjunk on here.

N2o will put us in the fuel class Luke. Thats not out of the question but for the near term we want to stick with C/GALT. But If Amy wants to just run for her goal then juice, turbos or jet pack will be tried :-D

Capt,
Enjoyed your build.  Having fun on a budget (sort of).  I approached my project a little differently - - had a motor that needed wheels.  About the same result - - 137 mph, so far.  But I don't quite see 200 on the near horizon!  Good luck to you and Amy.
