Two more questions
« on: May 24, 2013, 07:08:01 AM »
My rider has signed us up for the June race. The bike has been tested on the Hillbilly Dyno,NY rural back roads. We are trying to squeeze in some real dyno time this coming week .........I believe all the performance and safety items are taken care of...but... two questions.. This is a MPG 650/4 class..
Fuel lines, I find the rules confusing,it says fireproof,Bonneville guys say typical fuel hoes in fine for gasoline, this ain't Bonneville. You're looking at Gates Greenshield alcohol resistant fuel hose with screw clamps

Second item is chain guard. The rules mention thickness and width of top run, mounting overall length. No mention of sides so I have to assume no sides necessary
The guard you see is 1/8 inch steel,a side rail on the outside only, the top run is twice as wide and centered over the chain. Ok?

the fuel line will need fire sleeve over it. Try Summit or McMaster Carr.
McMaster has a 24 hour helpline. tell them what you need and they can put you on the right page online.

from the picture looks like you need a couple inches forward on the chain guard.
would be best to run it to the trans case if you can.

good luck.

I use a cloth mesh fire sleeve.
cannot get it to ignite over an open flame.

came from a hose supply house called khoeler (sp.)

I'm pretty sure that you can use braided steel line also.

Is this something new? Prior to this year fire sleeve was only required on lines that are not valved( like crossover lines and lines feeding a remote petcock).

Now I understand. Yes,it does say clearly  "Non valve" "saddle "tank cross over etc"  The hoses in my photo, petcock on each side of tank that feeds a carb. No cross over hoses,I should be good to go on this

Might be hard to see,the top run of the guard runs forward past the pivot joint into the chain cavity on the primary case.(like a tunnel)

I took it as the fuel line - needed - to be fireproof from the
second paragraph in the original post.

did not look at the heading ( ECTA rules ) he posted under .

bf
Columbia,  mo

some rules require all fuel lines be sleeved.
its not a bad idea to do it anyway.
