Walter Dumont lives!
« on: May 23, 2013, 02:42:15 PM »
I was out running errands today while Nancy held down the fort at the laser shop.  As I drove back into the parking lot I saw a bike parked in front of our door.  "Hmm", I thought.  "Who do I know that has an older Yamaha FZR 600 painted in gold, silver, and purple and has green-changing-to-blue-changing-to-black spoke wheels, and has a helmet with pink highlights bungeed onto the back of the scooter?"

Sure enough, it's Walt.  He's on his way home from another term at Michigan Tech and stopped by for a visit (as he always does) on his way through Marquette.  Interesting notes:  First of all, for those of you that don't remember him, he was quite active here on the Forum a few years ago when he built his first-ever race car -- a little Ford Escort, for Maxton.  His online name is/was 116ciHemi.  He raced it at Maxton a few times - and had a ball learning about it and racing.  Now he's in college (third year, math major) up in Houghton.  He lives downstate in Cadillac, which is about 300 miles from here.  300 miles 'til he gets home tonight.  What's the big deal?  Well, even though it's the 23st of May, it's all of 36F and there are quite a few snowflakes in the air.  In the picture -- note the lack of windscreen on his bike, and, for that matter, not much of a set of lowers on the fairing.  Both of those would make riding 400 or so (total) miles a tad nicer on this chilly day.

Ah, for the exuberance of youth, hey?

Walt must have some Scandinavian blood flowing in the vessels.

Is he hard headed too? :-D

Now that I've finally thawed out from that ride...

Yes, I do seem to be alive. My riding apparel for the trip- leather jacket sans liner, hoodie, and a long sleeve shirt with el-cheapo leather overpants and flannel lined jeans. No heated gloves, just a pair of Wal-Mart black fake leather gloves that block the wind better than my armored gloves.

Also, the pink helmet is for my girlfriend. Just throwin' that out there.

Hey, Walt!

Mathematics - that's a door opener, right there, and a wiser choice than my History degree.

I remember your struggling the first few semesters - looks like you've got a handle on it now.

So what are you going to be doing 67 days from today?  It's likely to be a little warmer in Utah :-)

Good to hear from you Walt!

Thanks for clearing up the pink helmet thing.  Wait a minute... girlfriend... you don't have time for that, you are in the engineering program! Well tell me she is a home girlfriend not a school girlfriend.  :-D

Keep in touch. Glad you are checking on Slim for us!
