I was out running errands today while Nancy held down the fort at the laser shop. As I drove back into the parking lot I saw a bike parked in front of our door. "Hmm", I thought. "Who do I know that has an older Yamaha FZR 600 painted in gold, silver, and purple and has green-changing-to-blue-changing-to-black spoke wheels, and has a helmet with pink highlights bungeed onto the back of the scooter?"
Sure enough, it's Walt. He's on his way home from another term at Michigan Tech and stopped by for a visit (as he always does) on his way through Marquette. Interesting notes: First of all, for those of you that don't remember him, he was quite active here on the Forum a few years ago when he built his first-ever race car -- a little Ford Escort, for Maxton. His online name is/was 116ciHemi. He raced it at Maxton a few times - and had a ball learning about it and racing. Now he's in college (third year, math major) up in Houghton. He lives downstate in Cadillac, which is about 300 miles from here. 300 miles 'til he gets home tonight. What's the big deal? Well, even though it's the 23st of May, it's all of 36F and there are quite a few snowflakes in the air. In the picture -- note the lack of windscreen on his bike, and, for that matter, not much of a set of lowers on the fairing. Both of those would make riding 400 or so (total) miles a tad nicer on this chilly day.
Ah, for the exuberance of youth, hey?
