   Nathan,
Did I miss something here? I thought in a vintage engine the camshaft had to remain in the original location. A new can of worms here? Hmmm, twin cam OHC 4 valve straight 8.
   Doug

Nope, no can of worms. V4 is allowed to have sohc/dohc.  XXO is not (says so in the rule book).

That is an interesting project.  Can the short block be built to handle the power and high rpm potential the cyl head will provide?
The bottom end of our motor is bomber.  5 mains, Moldex crank, Carillo rods, CP pistons.  We've never had any issues and the botom end always looks good upon tear down.  The failures we have had in V4F have been related to the strength of the upper potion of the block where the water jackets are thin from corrosion, or from deck failure.  Good 1928 Dodge blocks are not exactly easy to find.  They produced less than 50,000 Fast Fours, as compared to 4,320,446 Model A's.

Doug, V4 is weird subcatagory of a weird subcatagory (V4F) of a weird subcatagory (Vintage engines) which was created soley for bored masochists.  I'll explain it over a beer later this week.

Hell, I think I understand it.  :-P  It must have been conceived by the same people who are going to solve our debt problems by spending more money.Yes, more beer will put it into a better perspective.

This is a pic of Steve Nelson's V4 engine that holds the V4FL record at around 196. DOHC, 5 main bearing crank all good stuff, around 275 hp+. Probably one of the nicest bangers around. All legal per SCTA.

What's the head, or is it top secret?

Rex, Correct me if I am wrong. Pedro, he but his own head, and in special construction any type electronics are legal.  Tony

the vintage motor rules are night and day different when it comes to car specs. special const basically is your wallet and vintage body is technology limited. imho this is where the misunderstanding starts.

I could be wrong but I was under the impression that Steve used a Bob McKinney REM head.  Heard there were only 10 made.

It must be nice to run a Ford so we could just buy parts off the shelf   :-D

Disclaimer ~ I am, and have always been a smartass, from a long lineage of smartasses.  Indeed, my nickname, Pedro, is Portuguese for smartass.  I, and two other people actually think i am quite amusing sometimes.  That is a joke and is not intended to offend, demean, or start a long, endless, chain of forum dribble about Ford vs. Dodge bangers.

...but I am a bit jealous sometimes

Exactly... Montanan's are tougher and more resourceful.  Either that, or the fact that it's 14 frickin' degrees in April keeps us in the shop longer.

Be a good place for a sheep joke.  But they pass by my house on the way to Bonneville, wouldn't want to wake up with a rams head in my bed.
