What about an S-10 rear axle ?
« on: March 31, 2013, 09:27:41 PM »
I have been told by more than one guy that a S-10 axle is a good choice for a salt car because of the lower power loss in the ring and pinion. So after an extended 'Search and Seziure' mission in the local pick and pull , I scored one with posi and the ratio I wanted, Great , right ?

BUT, while reading the 'Bible', Verse 2 E, It says late model GM axles with C clip retainers , are NOT acceptable.   Because of the possibility of breaking and loosing the axle.

SO, has anybody figured out how to get around this axle retainer issue ? It's going in a old pickup powered by a warmed over flathead, so the chances of breaking an axle because of excessive power , aint gonna happen !

Thanks .

Sparky had posted something earlier about needing to put ford housing end on and have axles made. Also moser makes c-clip eliminator kits....

Moser makes a C-clip eliminator axle for thr S-10. I have them in my pickup. They are very easy to install.

From what I can gather it is not the failure of the C clips that is the issue, it's ,,, if you break an axle there is nothing to retain the hub from exiting the housing,  I thought maybe machining the drum and building retainer brackets like a banjo ford , you know just  wrap them around the edge of the drum to keep it from walking out.

Bill , will these eliminators pass tech ?   I'll look them up , thanks

C clip eliminators will pass tech, they retain the axle like a stock 9".
