April Wilmington Almost Ready?
« on: March 28, 2013, 07:14:05 PM »
Hi All
Well there's not much time left before the ECTA opening event in Wilmington.
Is everybody ready? Our Lakester has once again undergone a few more changes with the hopes of gaining a bit more on the record. Biggest news this year will be the first attempt at running a replacement iron flathead V-8 block which is still under construction but it will be ready and running in April. So many decisions to make as to the tune up while trying to keep it safe but still make a bit of power for some speed. So as of today just 30 days left.

I still have to finish my new intake manifold, get my wheel bearings installed, wire the logger and build a gas tank if I have time. So basically everything is going as planned working till the last minute. :-D

You know there is more power in liquid N20 than gaseous... tune it for cold

Thanks, yes I know it nees to stay liquid.
I am tuned for 950 psi.  The Wizards of nitrous system is desined to keep the nitrous in a liquid state all the way to the injector. The mornings in Ohio are very cold. A full bottle at 50 deg has about 700 psi. I was able to warm the bottles with hot water in September. But I would rather just turn on the heater to get the pressure perfect.
I will be at the Wilmington inn. And Damon's for dinner.

Getting ready and the weather is finally starting to warm up a little.  I think spring may finally be here for good.  The heads are almost done for the Duc and then the top end should be back together.  High compression pistons were added but we didn't find a good set of SP cams so that will have to wait.  Will be interesting to see what these changes add up to.

Our lakester came to life on Friday the new Flathead V-8 motor sounds pretty good. Have a few more details to complete but overall everything is looking good for the opening event of the ECTA season. Last big detail will be adjusting the trailer to our new Ram truck. Yes that things got a HEMI.  :-D
Jerry go easy on the dyno

Impossibly behind my goal.  The new truck won't make it but I'll bring the Dodge with a couple of refinements and see if I can bump the record a bit.  For some reason everything is taking longer than expected on the new project but I guess that's the way the cookie flops - er - mop crumbles, I mean.

See y'all there in any case

Can said:  "...For some reason everything is taking longer than expected on the new project..."

Dan, unh, mmm, I think you've discovered a basic tenet of building a race vehicle.  It's called "That's the way these things go, Dan.  If it all went together right and well and quickly and on the first try -- you'd be making a cup of coffee or tying your shoes -- not building a race vehicle."
