Jimmie Short is gone
« on: March 19, 2013, 12:39:08 PM »
Jimmie Short, the first into the 200MPH club with a stock bodied car on gasoline ( 201.744 MPH in 1964)  has past this morning after a long illness.

I grew up down the street from Short, and he was a big influence on me and my getting involved in racing.

Over the years, Short proudly wore his "Red Hat", and continued to keep up with whats happening in the LSR and other racing and was the go to guy when researching anything racing.

Short's passing is a big loss for the racing committee and will be dearly missed.

After spending a week together at Bonneville with Jim, the entire Pisano brothers crew would talk with a Texas accent. A neat guy, sorry to hear the sad news.

sad to hear this.... I never met the man ....but I do recall that about him being the first over 200 in a stock bodied, gasoline fueled car......

Another one of the (perhaps lesser known) legends is gone.....

Godspeed Jim..... we'll see you on the other side....
No s*** sticks to the man wearing a teflon suit.

Thing is Short's accent was fairly mild around these parts. Short and I visited Joe Pisano over at Baytwon, when he was running his Funny Car( Mike Dunn driving), you would have thought it was a family reunion.
Joe gave us the grand tour of his Funny car operation right in the middle of race day, as though nothing else was going on. BTW Mike won the race that day.

The two of them are probably looking over us now as their bench racing from above now. I'm sure nether one of them will run out of stories for a while.
