I had them screwed to the wheels of my new 84 Camaro.  After a while, the wheels flexed enuf to make the screws work their way thru the discs.  I'd lose a disc and the screws would still be there.

For 24 years the Bockscar's moons were on the alloy aircraft wheels with 6 #6 screws, never lost one screw... probably because we used low strength locktite.  When we added the LSR tire option to the rears a couple of years ago I welded tabs for dzus fasteners on the steel wheels.
I would say the work to add tabs will be appreciated for years to come....

If you decide to drill and tap the wheel beads be sure to use short enough screws... don't have the screws pushing against the tire bead, that tension will wear out the little screw threads rather quickly.
