Tire Question
« on: March 08, 2013, 06:46:22 AM »
2 -3 years ago, I saw a BFG tire that was good for over 200 and DOT rated.  I am looking for a front tire that is short and narrow.  Any help to identify is appreciated.

Also, our MT ET Street Radial (235/60/15) worked great on the Stude.  I am trying to find something similar in traction, but more narrow.  I would like to find something around 27" tall.  Any suggestions?

This is getting harder and harder.  your best bet is to go front runner, or find some 17 or 18 race wheels and put import tires on them.  205 is the narrowest you can get.  Look on Tire Rack they have most brands and sizes, then buy local once you figure out what you need.  We run an old pair of Azinis when they made them v rated and 22" tall.

205 should work.  What is the rating for 'V'?

Michelin makes some good ones. Either Pilot Super Sport or Pilot Sport Cup. both are y parentheses  "(Y)" rated. (Y) speed rating is essentially a "Z" but with special criteria as agreed upon by the tire and auto manufacturer. The down side is that the tire manufacturer in this case (Michelin) will not disclose those criteria. The up side is that they are factory equipment on super cars like the Ferrari F12berlinetta, which has a factory advertised top speed of 212 mph. It is frustrating that Michelin backs away from land speed but their view is that there is no up side for them, only liability. But I personally feel, IMHO, that there are no other tires on the market that can run with those two brands.

I am a Michelin Research Engineer.
I am not/ can not represent Michelin in any way shape or form on this site. I do not have the permission of Michelin to advocate the use of their tires for land speed. I can not  attest to the quality of construction or speed at which the tires are rated.

All i am saying is look at the speed rating symbol and see what car manufacturer is using them. You can draw your own conclusion. I use them on my car.
