Motorcycle gas shutoff
« on: March 07, 2013, 07:19:41 AM »
This question is for a gasoline motorcycle running in Modified Production. The rules say a fuel shut off (petcock) within reach of the rider. My bike bike has a typical British fuel tank with a high tunnel  and two petcocks, one  for each side of the tank. Does two petcocks meet this  rule? Or is it necessary to plumb the two sides into one shutoff? Obviously with two carburetors, one petcock for each carb makes a neater look.... Thanks

I believe you are alright, as long as they can be reached from a seated position.  The idea is in case you break a line, or develope a leak, the leak can be isolated from the tank or in your case tanks.  If you plump them into one and get a leak on the cross over you will not be able to isolate the other tank.  If you decide to go to a fuel class, its a whole new ballgame.

The standard 2 petcock setup used on older brit cycles is ok . that setup has been thru tech countless times including my 2 PP-P Triumphs
