It's hard to remember what happened & when it happened back then, we were all beating ourselves into history on & off the salt, it's like a big blur. It was tough & costly when you had to pre-qualify a blown fuel car for an SCTA record run. One speed week we made eleven passes over 350 with the B engine on 55% without even pulling the heads then me & Anthony changed to the A engine Thursday night, you just couldn't afford to run them hard!
I can't think of anybody else that was 400 capable in 90-91 than Al & Nolan. I think Vesco's still had the twin Chevy's then & Herbert Steen had carbs & solid wheels in 90, was injected on Mickeys in 91 but didn't make it to S/W, ran WOS but never went 400 at any time.
Nolan was a big piece of the history back then but I can't find any video on him to post here.
If anybody has anything........?
I think it was 90 when Nolan first ran the twin engine setup. He never had a pit area, he was like a phantom, always working out of the trailer where ever he stopped. You never knew if he was ready to run or had gone home, he would just pop up on the line.
