What's the difference?
« on: April 24, 2020, 04:30:59 PM »
HI guys. What is the difference between Speedweek, World of Speed and the World finals? If possible, I would like to attend the 130mph club event, I have read the rules and it sounds fun. I am not sure what to expect. What goes on at the World of speed event besides the 130/150mph club event? Whats the difference between the three events? I have never been to Bonneville and any info. would be appreciated. Thank you.

At World of Speed, USFRA runs runs the 130MPH Club and 150MPH Club, in addition to the same "Competition Classes" (and rules) that SCTA-BNI runs at Speedweek and World Finals.  Only World of Speed has the 130/150 Clubs.   World of Speed doesn't draw nearly as many entries as Speedweek (200+ vs 500+), and there's no impromptu car show at the Nugget.  But at World of Speed, the Wendover/West Wendover hotels/motels don't raise their prices through the roof like they do for Speedweek, either.  Low hotel/motel prices also at World Finals, but fewer entries, no 130/150 Clubs, and frequent rain-outs.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping more than the 130/150 club event would be at the World of speed event. Everyone and myself that wants to make the trip was curious if other cars would be out running, so that's good to hear. Thanks again!

The fastest wheel-driven record ever was set at World of Speed - by Dave Spangler in the Vesco Turbinator II at 482.646MPH in 2018.  The temperatures at WoS (in September) are usually a bit lower than at SW (in August), so that certainly doesn't hurt!

My experience there as inspector and participant :  Speed Week is the the BIG meet , everything is there ..   WOS is less so , the 130 / 150 club has a lot of "other" type racers and a variety of every thing else . 130/150 club racing is less costly than the others .   WOS being the last meet has a variety of racers for all the reasons they are there , missed Speed Week , didn,t  miss  SW and want to do more at a smaller meet and have more runs .  All these are because of weather , opportunity , timing , money , crew availability and how life happens. It's all awesome ,the more you can go the better.  Every meet is the best ..    STEVE

I also have an "event" question, but historical. Can it be said that the Bonneville Nationals morphed into SpeedWeek?

I first ran at Bonneville in 1959. The last time was 1968. It was always called Bonneville Nationals during that time.

The address, 9607 Ponciana St, was Burke LeSage's house.

Your inspected and participation stickers still indicate Bonneville Nationals.

Drove from Chicago to Bonneville 2011. One of the best times of my life. Ran 134 got in the 130 club. I hope to return this year for 150 club. GO GO you will love it. USFRA in September.

I think of my trip 3000 miles everyday. I met the friendliest people ever.
No trailer ran 135mph at the World of Speed 2011 see you in 2012 in Ohio and back at Bonneville at the world of speed going for the 150club 1979 Firebird T/A White . Ck out YOU TUBE. KERRY AT BONNEVILLE. Didn't  make 2012,2013,2014. ECTA in Ohio 2012 trans went out and 2013 fuel problems . Still trans and fuel problems. Finally all looks good. Ready to drive (no trailer) 1500 miles to Bonneville and It's cancelled. NEXT YEAR. SEPT. ECTA RAN 144 MPH. GETTING BETTER. 2021 Ran 152 fulfilled a ten year dream to make the 150 club.
