1000cc Sportbike commonly reached speeds in mile
« on: February 24, 2013, 04:21:02 PM »
LSR nOOb here, I was wondering what are the speeds commonly reached on stock 1000cc sportbikes in a mile.  For those that dragrace the same bike, I usually trap at 145+ in the quarter with stock gearing. And was curious if anyone could give me an idea of what I could POSSIBLY run in the mile, I have slightly taller than stock gearing and am very light. Bike will not be lowered at all (thats how it is dragraced) Any answers would be very helpful and appreciated, any advice would be great as well. Thanks guys and girls, Kurt J.    (Bike to be used will either be a 2006 or 2012 Yamaha R1)

Id guess 175-185 at stock height, but its difficult to say, tuck and riding style makes a big difference. Bring it out and see.

Joe, my bike was new zx10, the bmws are faster.

Thanks guys, Dean was the ZX's ecu flashed and stock beyond that ?   If its worth a few mph, I will lower it.  I'd like to be as prepared as possible.

I would lower your bike a little, but not like dragracing. At speed you will need the travel.

My bike was reflashed and had a little engine work.

Hope to see you in April.

What is flashing and reflashing an ECU?

What is flashing and reflashing an ECU?

For the particular bike mentioned above, Kawasaki had to nutter it so it would pass the USA EPA sound level test.   EPA test the bike by taking sound readings at 1/2 RPM of where peak HP occurs.  Kawasaki removed timing above a certain RPM to lower where the peak HP occured.

145mph in the 1/4, just times it by 4. 580mph, simple math....that was easy!
who would have guessed it would take so long to go so fast for such a short time?

2012 Wilmington mile
April meet,
p/pp-1350/4 record, 132.601mph

September meet,
p/pp-1350/4 record 139.915mph [bump]
p/pp-1650/4 record 142.364 mph
p/pp-2000/4 record 140.009 mph
p/pp-3000/4 record 144.511 mph

2013 Wilmington mile
July meet,
m/pg-1650/4 record 137.278
m/pg-2000/4 record 136.695

Sept meet,
p/pp-1350/4 record 141.1986 [bump]

2014  Wilmington mile
May meet
p/pp-1340/4 record 142.5855 [bump]

In the case of my 2012 R1, the fly by wire throttle closes the throttle plates to 84% at 12,000rpm even when throttle is held WFO at 100%. The ZX10 does this as well, not sure of the % though. Reflashing the ecu removes this, I gained 8hp at peak hp rpm after flashing the ecu. Peak hp rpm is now 700-800 rpm higher.

I can change that! I made a r6 i am working on 1=1, 46=46 100=100TPS wise.

Dean, Is the clearance a function of the track at Maxton or suspension compression at speed?

For sure a need at Maxton (RIP) for the bumps, but ground clearance is handy at any track for the heavy fork compression in shutdown.
