Engine measurement for Classic Gas?
« on: January 29, 2013, 01:05:26 AM »
Who is the contact I can direct my questions?  Looking at bringing equipment and borescope to measure bore/stroke without cutting the camchain.  I would like to try for another record with the bike that had 500cc C engine AMA record (44 years ago.).

Thanks, JimL

Matt Schuss is the SCTA motorcycle chair -- and I think you're asking about the Bub's/AMA event.  Try finding Drew Gatewood.  He's a member here -- posts now and then.  I'm not on the home 'puter so don't have his email handy.  Sorry.

If you motor has a center sparkplug hole, Drew already has the equipment to measure the engine while it is together, as does the SCTA.

I'm sure that if you can demonstrate accurate measurement you can get there.

Thanks fellows, I tried the BUB technical contact.  My pushrod bike wont meet BUB rules, so I need to get this off the shelf (literally) if I want to participate.

yes you have my curiosity peaked now also.  Why is your bike not pushrod legal at Bubs?

Me being the current holder of the 2 modified 500cc pushrod gas records I am really curious.

When I built the chassis for two engines, I had to build a lot of extra frame and mount areas on each side of the rear wheel.  Even with the tail completely removed, there is not 180 degrees of rim showng, particularly if I mount the radiators so the bike could be ridden two way runs and to pits.

I need the water tank in front of the engine; holds the front end down, and lets me jet without leaning out three miles down.  If I jet rich enough for the radiators only, I am only about 150 at the two.  Been running this thing at 650 or 680 for several years and pretty much stuck at 159 if I do everything right.  Thats why I am building a new bike that is narrower and lower.

The water tank works for SCTA, wont hold that much heat for AMA....takes too long to get the heat out and I cannot bleed it without suspending the bike vertically from that rear frame structure.

It also cant run open at SCTA because the weird frame is too big to lower the seat position below top of
rear tire.  There is a lesson here about planning; I hope I am helping some other fool, so they dont do it like I did!!  Catch #22 is..... :-P

Regards, JimL

don't most of the organizations that run the land speed events
require 2 out of 5 or 6 possibles to qualify for special construction or altered classes ?
