tire shaving & balancing in PNW?
« on: January 20, 2013, 02:30:31 AM »
I understand it's common to shave tires, and have 'em balanced at a higher speed than the average tire shop's machine runs at.

So, anyone in the Seattle area do this?  Or, have I been fed a load of Barbara Streisand?

Thanks,

Bill

Bill, what kind of tires are you thinking of shaving and for what purpose.  Yes we know land speed, what venue, what speed, have you read the rulebook for your situation...
Sorry Bill, yes some shave tires, usually bikes, car tires don't get a speed increase with shaving

The only place I've had tires shaved is www.TireRack.com.  IIRC, they won't do used tires, nor cut below the legal wear limit.

I think is was $40 each tire.
My doctor told me to go out and kill people.
Well, sort of.  He told me to reduce the stress in my life.

PS - A good balance at 55mph is going to be fine up to 200 in my experience, both street and competition.  Haven't been past 200 significantly, so I can't say about higher speeds.

Bill  -  please send me a PM.  I also live in Seattle and would like to be in touch with others in the area making the trek to the Salt.
