Yes, my engine builder has quite a bit of extensive knowledge on this.

His name is Mike,  you can contact him at 801-829-5877

Tell him Clay sent you to him.

Hope this helps

Talk to you later

Lots of talk about it. The funny thing is most of the success comes from your neck of the woods.

There are several yamaha rd/rzs that have done it. You may look down that road.

A guy in Denver that has a company called High Gain Tuning is claiming he can do two strokes. Lots of controversy, and not much proof. I truly hope he does something that is somewhat of a bolt on. I would like to go there at some point.

Also look into the snowmobile world. I am not real familiar with what they are doing but there EFI systems on them. The new outboard two strokes all have injection as well.

Look up Ecotrons.  Already have kits, 2 strokes apparently need two injectors per cylinder.

Snowmobiles have been running normal throttle body EFI 2 strokes for years. Plenty of used Throttle bodies on FleaBay.

I think the newer direct injection used on the current model Outboards and Snowmobiles is limited by the revs it can operate at. Athena did offer a Direct Injection system that worked at Hi RPM but again on a 50cc bike. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gVeqix2Yc4

Rotax did a "Semi Direct" Injection that injected into the transfer ports.

Ossa Motorcycles released an Enduro EFI Smoker last year.

The Ecotrons kits are After Market Throttle Body Kits for small Pit Bikes. The Hi Gain stuff appears to be for hi performance small capacity 50-80cc stuff.

It can be done and most after market ECUs will run a 2 Stroke.

The number of injectors depends on the engine size and the RPM simply because you are firing each stroke, so you double the size of the injectors for any given capacity as a baseline.

It is getting the Fuel Map set up, that would need a bit of time spent on it.

I imagine the Fuel Map would look a bit like a Turbo Map with the Fuel requirement increasing suddenly once "the Pipe" comes on.

I was looking into it. I was going to inject into the crankcase after the Reed Valves. I have throttle bodies, but it's become a future project for now.

In reading this, forgot to mention that we run a snowmobile engine, and that's the business that My engine builder is in.

Also forgot to give you his website: cpiracing.com

Funny what age will do to you

Hey Clay, all his website shows is parts. He does engine building as well?

What is his background on two stroke FI? I would be interested in talking to him about it.

To be honest with you, you would need to contact him on that.

Tomorrow night 1/2/2012  is the USFRA meeting at Totems, will you be there?

As far as my dealings with Mike, I met him through another racer with the USFRA by the name of Gary Lewis, who runs a 500 CC two stroke Suzuki.

Mike is very honest and a very pleasant. When I first purchased the car, I took the engine a 1000 CC Arctic Cat Thunder Cat  to him and had him Dyno it, and to advise me what we needed to do, etc. I told Mike that I did not have a lot of knowledge with snowmobile engines, two strokes in general, but did not want to get sold a jar of hot air that promised me 200 HP. He did some very minor modifications, and he increased the HP from 140 to 185, so I was very pleased with this and we eventually turned a top speed of 135 and some change running on a 142 record, and he was very reasonable on the priceand true to his word, he advised me what to do, what I needed to do to get more HP, etc.

For 2013, we are doing an engine change, and he has been right there with me advising me of what to get, and what not to purchase or what works and what does not.

Mike indicated to me that he has over 40 years of experience. He also used to drag race snowmobiles and was very good at it. So not only does he know how to make the engines run, he was also a racer, so tried and true experiences.

I see that you are in SLC? His shop is in Mtn Green,

Hope this helps, and makes sense

Let me know if you need anything else

See you on the salt,
Clay
