Worth buying a 2012 SCTA Rules and Record Book now?
« on: December 19, 2012, 10:14:04 PM »
Howdy,

Forgive the noob question but is it worth buying the 2012 book now when it's practically 2013?  I.e. are the rules in the book still the current ones for Speedweek 2013?

Thanks,

CTX, If you go to the home page of this site, Jon has listed the 2013 rule changes.

The new rules posted on the front page of this site plus your 2012 rulebook will get you started. The changes you will see when you recieve the 2013 book will be the records and photos of a vehicle representative of the class descriptions.

Here's another way to look at the issue of buying a book now - or waiting:  LSR is NOT a poor man's hobby, so a $10 fee for a book shouldn't be considered as a reason to hold off for a few weeks or months.  In the grand scheme of things -- would you notice the extra ten bucks at the end of the season?

Understood.   I'm not adverse to spending the $10, it's just I didn't want to buy a book that would be superceded in a month or so.  I'll go ahead and buy one tonight.

Thanks!

If you are lucky you will get a 2013 book in March or April....  :|
So the correct decision is start now and avoid the rush.  By the time you have read the rules several times, marked the changed sections that apply to your vehicle you will be months ahead of the waiting game.
Read the rules, try to not read into the rules, if you have questions ask them in the rules section and expect a variety of interpretations.... the final say is always the SCTA Tech Chair for your vehicle.  But not every newbie rule question needs to go there... understanding what you read is half the battle.
