What would be your next build if time and money permitted?
« on: December 07, 2012, 01:19:55 AM »
Ok, I am still at work and I'm EXTREMELY bored, so I thought I would make a thread where everyone can post up their ideal builds! I'll start with one of the many that pop into my head while I'm here.

Today I thought up a Diesel Streamliner using the 700cc diesel engine Arctic Cat puts in their ATVs. As-is the engine would put it in J class, but if it was sleeved down to 500 you could run from K on up :-). I wonder how fast you could get something like that with a suitable turbo?

Ok, everyone else's turn!

My idea runs along very similar lines using a small industrial diesel. Stock it's naturally aspirated but I think it might be fun to put a turbo on it and add more and more boost until it whimpers. I'd probably start the operation with a pretty serious girdle around it to hold it together for as long as we could. The engine's cheap enough that a guy could start out with two of them, one in the car and one in the trailer. Probably do some work to both to encourage longevity and run until you were out of engines. At that point go home with new found knowledge and see if the next year couldn't be faster using a similar program.

You're a glutton for punishment Jim. If two engines are hard to get to run together, what would four be like?  :? :-D

If I hit the Lotto, maybe a steam powered streamliner.  Those Omega classes look like fun.  It would take two things I don't have - money and skill.  Maybe Jay Leno could lend me his steam mechanic 'cause I know nothin'.

I too would like a couple of steam-powered racers to run Omega. One in a Lakester and one in a bike running APS. I grew up on a farm and a guy down the road has a fully restored steam-engined tractor. Those things are fascinating to watch in action.

For me money is no object . I don't have any.
My next build will be just like the one I have now with a cleaner riding position. Kinda going to start with a clean sheet. But six seasons of experience.
trying to go 200 KPH with a 250cc four stroke.
