Attention aircraft sheet metal mechanics
« on: December 06, 2012, 07:59:42 PM »
I was going through some old stuff of my dad's and came uppon these mixed in with threaded shank drill bits for an angle drive air motor. With 34 years at Lockheed I am unable to identify them. Anyone recognise them? Aircap? Stainless?

Jim, the drill motor is named ACE drill. I have two of them and a lot of drill and reamers for them Very handy. As the drill and reamers are very short designed for tight places they have come in handy on the Vesco streamliner as late. It looks like the other pieces are some type of adapter used with the drills. Some where I have some of my old books and will see if I can find them to see if they are shown.

Yes Glen that angle drive air motor has saved my bacon several times. A friend gave me some more threaded shank drills so I was sorting through the whole mess to see what sizes I had. Lots of #sizes, mostly 30 and 40 as you would expect but quite a few piloted reamers too.

Well here is the words I got back... not a lot of help...

" A few of the guy seem to think some of it is used somehow as a drill guide, perhaps for drilling pilot holes."

" Our tool guy says “that stuff is 40 years old”, but couldn’t remember how to use it"

but the tool guy is how we all feel now and then

Aircraft drill jigs have large bushings in them deliberately.

You do not allow a drill bit to touch the tool bushings.

The bushing you drill with takes the wear, not the expensive tool.

My doctor told me to go out and kill people.
Well, sort of.  He told me to reduce the stress in my life.
