Wilmington questions
« on: December 01, 2012, 03:58:14 PM »
I'm hoping to make my first-ever run at Wilmington in April, with no support vehicle. Assuming I can get a room in the Wilmington area, what's the procedure for people who are traveling to the event in the car they're racing? Are you allowed to leave the pits with your car at the end of each day and return the next day, or do race vehicles have to stay in the pits? And if it's the latter, how do you get to wherever you're staying? I guess I should ask the same question of Loring, too, since I'm registered for the July Maine event...

Gary,
you can drive your car to the motel, campground or rest area.

you can leave your pit set up with your stuff and all.

that goes for both venues.
they have had camping at the loring track in the past.
I believe self contained can park across from Wilmington track.

look us up if you like.

Or hitch a ride with someone to the motel as I'm sure there will be one or two folks staying at the same motel, great way to make new friends :-)

I generally run by my lonesome.  It's MUCH easier at Ohio than at Bonneville as you can drive your race vehicle in the pits - at SCTA meets it must be towed or pushed.  Anyhow, no issue driving to the motel, out to dinner, etc.  The thing to remember is that if you're running race gas (so you're in a Gas class) be sure you don't add fuel at the local gas station.  Once the seal is broken you'll have to go thru the whole deal of recertifying your fuel load - the gas vendor does that.  Last year I ran Diesel classes and there is no Event Diesel so it's regarded as "Fuel".

I caution everyone to register for motel space ASAP as they fill quickly, especially for the April meet.  I booked mine last September!

You'll need two things to run - a place to stay (there are also campgrounds in the area - check the ECTA website) and a registration.  The April meet is likely to get booked (max of 175 entries) so get your hat in the ring early.  Registration opens January 1 (I'd wait until the 2nd. as the officials are party animals!).  Actually, I think the registration forms are on the website so you can fill it in and get the process started.  Be sure to fill out the medical form so they have the info in the unlikely event that some ill befalls you.  You really do have to plan ahead.

If all the Wilmington motels are full there are also some decent places in Jamestown which is maybe 20 miles away.  I stayed at the Baymont once and it was very nice - and there's a good restaurant across the back parking lot.  The unofficial ECTA headquarters is at the Holiday Inn Express.  I'm in the system at the Wilmington Inn - they treat us well and the rooms are a bit dated but just fine.  The hotel downtown has a great dining room but I've never seen the rooms - probably very nice.  The town has been VERY welcoming and seem genuinely happy to see us.
