. . .   don't think you'll qualify for regular altered class either because of the year of your car. . .
True, the Flatcad can't run as a Modified category Altered because you aren't running front fenders.  Those fenders are required in Modified Altered. . . . . 99 percent of the time Nathan is right but I think he is slightly off on this one . . . The year of the car is not the issue.

LOL yeah, I think you might have got me on that one LL but I think I was only slightly slightly off.  Normally, the typical disqualifier (I guess that's not a word) that would make a car that should be in the Classic category illegal for Classic is running EFI (as specifically stated in the rule book).  I don't think Buddy intends on running EFI (and I'm not 100% sure that you can run EFI on a vintage engine in a non-vintage, non-special construction car) but the Classic rules do say that you must run either one distributor or mag and I think there's the underlying idea that "computers" aren't allowed unless the year of the car in question came with it and if it did then you must use it in stock form.  So I guess running a computerized distributorless ignition system is enough to disqualify you from Classic and put you in regular Modified.

Altered has always allowed pre-'48 cars to run without running boards and fenders (if they can be unbolted).  I don't see how moving out of Classic and into regular Modified would then require you to run fenders on a pre-'48 car.  So if someone runs a '32 Ford coupe with a carb'd SBC they run Classic Altered without fenders but if they switched to EFI they'd have to put fenders on?  I don't think that's the case.  I can't seem to find my '12 book but if that's what it says it's wrong and needs to be changed.

Nathan, you're correct- we won't run EFI until we get into special construction.

I've asked to be sure that I don't need the fenders in Altered class, but I'm sure that you're right, and we can still run without them.
With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine. However, this is not necessarily a good idea. It is hard to be sure where they are going to land, and it could be dangerous sitting under them as they fly overhead. -- RFC 1925
