Licensing.
« on: November 16, 2012, 05:42:36 AM »
How does the licensing system for a driver work over there?. There are obviously categories etc. I'm really interested and how would I apply for one being based outside the US.

Rules say you must have a current valid drivers lisc. and a SCTA lisc and attend a ROOKIE orientation meeting.  The usual proof of ins. and medical information FORM will apply.  These are the high lights. My personal experience in helping other overseas drivers---make sure someone on your team can speak and understand "USAlish" it varies from book english and get someone who can take the time to explain some of the choices that make things go smoother.  Come on over the salt is fine!!

Added to above:  AFAIK, the only categories are for speed.  You go up in increments.  125-150 for the rookie pass (done from the rookie lane), then 150-175, 175-200, etc.
To go over 200 will take a minimum of 4 passes, but you get a new license at each level.

Step One go to SCTA-BNI.ORG and order a book.  It will be a 2012, but will get you started.  New books come in Feb?

It's not so much the licensing, as the safety apparel you must worry about.  The safety gear is very specific and not always obvious.  Licensing is simple and is only done at Bonneville.  Other licensing isn't accepted.

Not true - you are able to license @ El Mirage, too.

Yes, you can license at EM but, that EM license means nothing at Bville. Which is what the statement was meaning I believe... To have a license for Bville you must go through the licensing requirements at Bville...

So, appartently you can go to BUB with your turbo 'busa, throw a leg over the saddle and pin the throttle. Doesn't make sense to me but, maybe the guy that classifies the Triumphs did that and then fell down.

Mohave will take other racing creds on a case-by-case basis.  Wifey and I were given the green light, but haven't given it a shot yet.

Above:  Yes, I was referring to SCTA Bonneville.  It's simple, but must be done there.

Yes DW, that's the way they roll @ BUB... They also have a HD with a M-BG record...

So now it's the "show". The "big leagues".  8-)

Licensing only accounts for so much. It allowed Noonan to go 250 at El Mirage, and then fall on his butt off the starting line.
