I'm trying to get a good understanding of where exactly on the roll cage that gussets are required. In all likelihood, I will have more gussets than needed to meet the minimum standard, but I want to make sure that I don't miss a location where they are actually required.
OK , per 3.B.1 - "Gussets are required at tube junctions of hoops and shoulder rail"., along with "Gussets are required at all shoulder bar attachment points"
For a roadster, the figures on pages 27 and 28 of the 2012 rulebook are illustrative of required gusset location. The figure 1 on page 26 for a stock bodied car does not seem to show the required gusset locations.
For a doorslammer, I can picture where the hoop and shoulder rail meet (at 2 locations, one on each end of the shoulder bar, where it ties into the main hoop). Per the rulebook, it seems that only 2 gussets would be required to meet the minimum standards.
In most photos of rule-meeting roll cages, there are many more gussets. I intend to gusset at as many locations as possible, but don't want to miss a required location.
Can anyone shed some light on what the inspectors expect to see?
Thanks in advance,
Steve.
