More sad news, long time SDRC member Mike McCarty passed away this week. Below is a picture of Mike and his flying ironing board.
I will miss your wry sense of humor, RIP Mike

Unless it's crazy, ambitious and delusional, it's not worth our time!

I moved this from the general chat section to this one - per Jdincau's request.  I guess it belongs here more than there.

I hadn't seen the "ironing board" before.  It looks like it was - unh, mmm, challenging.  What is the steering - a linkage from grips mounted part way back to the hub - or something?  How fast was the bike?

May Mike rest in peace.  So long, my friend.

One unique thing was the extended foot pegs.  See the two pieces sticking out the back? I think the foot pegs were on the end of those pieces.

So he had to keep his feet on the pegs.......very possible and remain in a prone position.

He was a friend of Don Vesco and his wife, Susan, was a volunteer worker that fed the people at the mile marker observation posts.

He had a printing company and a lot of imagination when it came to mechanical contrivances.

Sorry you are gone, Mike.

Jack Dolan sent me this picture years ago.
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

I always wonder how much salt and Elmo dust he got in his face. Guess it didn't matter he was doing his thing and loved it. God Speed Mike. :-(

So sad, I still remember breaking open the champagne at Mike and Susan's house when Don Vesco broke the 300mph record. Very nice guy and very talented in many ways.  He ran the ironing board "bike" about 135mph when the front centerhub device came apart.  Amazingly unhurt, Mike said he knew he was in trouble when he was looking at the side of the bike.....great attitude!  He will be missed.
