Several people used the lie-down riding position while it was still legal - Jack Dale on his Harley 45 for instance.  I think the frontal area is reduced and the "fineness" ratio increased; both of which should reduce drag.  Sometimes around 1954 or 55 a test was done in Europe which determined that well fitted leathers had lower drag than bare skin.  Look at the riding positions of most modern Hayabusa bikes.  The riders are just crouching a bit, which can't be doing anything for aero drag.  If they lowered or removed the seats and did something with the tank (except the the problem with the air intakes) it would at least look more race-like.

Most of us that race Hayabusas do all of that. The tank has nothing to do with the air intake.

Rubbing salt in the wound - - is a real and serious issue.  Fred knows, Nancy knows, and on and on.  And now I'll once again campaign for the kevlar underwear that we wear when on a race course.  Bulky, yes, but not so bad -- and not hot, and not that cheap -- but way cheaper than skin grafts and even just plain ol' suffering while the rash heals.  Long pants with stirrups to hold 'em down, long sleeved shirt with hook-n-loop closure to hold the cuffs in place - - all good.

Tape the gloves around the suit cuff.  That way they don't roll up.

SSS, I couldnt imagine what road rash feels like after crashng on a motorcycle, especially at speeds seen on the salt. Ive had road rash after crashing on a bicycle and that sucks. I sure as heck dont wanna know what it feels like after a tumble off a motorcycle. You motorcycle riders are crazy  :-D

It was really ugly and scary, and yes I was very lucky. To walk away from that with minor salt rash was almost a miracle. Dont want to try it again!! :-D

I had a crash at over 100 mph. Thought I would never stop sliding. Started feet first, Jacket pulled up kicked around so I was sliding head first, my shoulders and butt got hot. Ended up aching my back and trying to slide on my helmet and soles of my boots. Even rolled and slid face down before I stopped. Wore though the elbos of my suit and a quarter size hole in my skin to the bone and about 16 square inches of skin off my back over my kidneys.

Went over the bars at ~120 once on asphalt.  The guy behind said it looked like I was break dancing until I go to the runoff area when I went airborne.  I stopped before the tires/armco.  The good news was that I distributed the load on just about every part of my body at different points in the tumble/slide.  The bad news is that I hurt just about everything.  Only a couple of holes though and no bones broken, so I got off lucky.
