Towing
« on: October 19, 2012, 11:49:43 AM »
Looking to sell my Ford diesel.  Anyone out there every tow with a Ford Eco-Boost. 2013's can be rated at 11,300 and there ads on the net are pretty compelling. I tow usually once a year for 1500 miles and use the truck for vacations to Florida.

I know it won't take the hills as well as the diesel but I used a 351 1/2 ton 96 F150 prior to the 04 and was happy. Just needed more cab room...........Thanks JD

Other option is a 6.2 Gas which will tow the same. (Raptor engine in a XLT)

JD, I just bought a 2012 F-150 with the Eco-Boost. I have had 5 Ford diesels, all of them have been the 7.3 L models. The new Eco-Boost pulls almost as good as the Diesels but the milage is not as good as the Diesel when towing. We just got back from a trip to Colorado pulling a 20' camping trailer that probably doesent weigh 4000 lbs and I saw as low as 7 mpg on some upgrades. I get 18 driving around town. I like the way it rides and drives, it is the crew cab, so it has a lot of room in it. The last two trips to the salt was with my old 2000 F-250 Diesel, 6 speed manual and we averaged 12.8 mpg with an overhead camper on it towing a trailer with the Stude on it that weighed 4700 lbs.

GH;

FYI, my 2004 Dodge 3500 2WD with a Cummins and auto trans gets about 5mpg better than those figures.

Some years ago I know of a couple of guys who would go out at noon and put in about a gallon of gas in a fellows new truck. He was bragging about his great milage in the new truck. That went on for a few weeks, then they would go out at noon and take some out. He stopped bragging about his great milage.

Thanks to those who replied. Not interested in another diesel so all of them are out including the Dodge which I know gets good mileage. Thanks for your reply GH. I'm going to retire again so I'll be cutting down on a vehicle saving Ca. registration, insurance, and fuel.

The truck needs to be gas so I can use it for shorter use. My wife and I will share her Honda if I need to run somewhere and she doesn't need her car. I'll always have my 56 Victoria if need be. I just don't see the need for another work car so my 2003 Honda HX will go too. None of our vehicles have many miles and are dentless and every clean. The truck has 70K, my Honda has 71K, and my wifes 2000 has 61K.

We will continue our driving vacations thru out the West and to Florida to see our grandaughter and the Eco has good mileage even with the max-tow. Might even keep this one off the salt. Towed many times to Bonneville with my first F-150 so I'll not worring about it......Thanks again
