The welding is excellent. Some of the nicest I've seen.  The car looks good and my guess is that the quality workmanship will follow through right to the end. Good luck with the project. I'm subscribed.

Thanks tauruk!
It's taking longer than I had imagined, but I'm loving the challenge.

How do you get that tubing so shiny and clean?

Acetone then sanding belt. Then acetone again before welding because of fabbing, etc.

...I can honestly say that if I had to take a bad ride in a race car that's one of the ones I'd choose, You're doing a fine job.     Pete

Ditto, I would feel very safe in that car.

Very well triangulated.  Please keep posting  :-),

Thanks guys.
Coming along. Going to have to yank it out and do some of the bars with it out of the shell.
Here we sit...

Gets a little hard to see stuff, but just trying to support the important parts as best I can.

Pre-welding some of the corners where more bars go over top...

Just a fit-up pic showing that I bevel the tube edges a bit on the edges where the fillet weld will be laid out quite a bit...
It's the centre of the windshield at dash level looking from the outside-front

20 mins and it's out!! Glad I put some thought into the design for this purpose.
Put the outside door bar in, nice and tight!

Passenger side is nearly done now.

Starting to look like a cage

Another shot of the passenger side from above...

I'm going to do a bunch of welding and a few gussets, then throw it back in to do the driver's side door bars etc.

That is one nice cage, well thought out, I also like the center bar in the front, ,Earl Wooden had one in his Crosley when he crashed and it probably saved his life as a thick alum. plate hit the bar and deflected it away.

Scary, but great to know it has proven it's worth elsewhere.

I'm going on a bit but man, you can weld!!!! It's a sin you're going to have to paint that cage.
I'd have to call you the Bobby Orr of Tig, seriously.

Thanks tauruk. I'm a big Bobby Orr fan, so that means alot. I liked Gretzky and all, but Bobby was such a pioneer and game changer.
I started at this when I was just 12, so I have a lot of inches in already(now 34). I love it. Dreamed of doing this as a kid, living the dream.
Had some very good mentors through my early career, so I'm lucky.
Anyway, cage will go back in today sometime to fit driver's door x-over, steering wheel mounts, and a few more bits and pieces.
More to come!
