2012 WOS Video and Photos
« on: September 18, 2012, 07:49:44 PM »
I know there is a long "official" thread for this event, but thought a separate thread for sharing video and photos would be nice.

I'll start off with our first ever run, in the 150 MPH Club event - https://vimeo.com/49658664

And here is a video Kurt made - http://youtu.be/eBsOAupAw0g

Kurt was the guy with the powered hang glider.

The photos I took are on our FB page, here - http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.523476854333143.134105.192201637460668&type=3

Another WOS video, this time of an interesting car starting its maiden run. It would end up blowing a coolant line and ended the 2 mile runs for the day. We had been ready to start our second run.

The video of our second run at Bonneville is ready. This one shows the whole run along with a few minutes waiting in line and other shots that should give my friends a pretty good idea of what it was like to be a part of this fantastic gathering of awesome people and machines.

This was our second run. It went well and we were slower by only 0.5 mph at 117.2 mph while most cars were 3-5 seconds slower than the day before. We were hoping for a faster run in the afternoon heat but we never made it that far. Run 3 would be our last. Stand by for the video from that one.

Great videos, thanks for sharing.  I am definitely impressed with Team Tinyvette, especially since my first car was a '71 Opel Manta Rally.  That Manta had excellent handling, but I doubt that it could have made it to over 100mph.  The engine always sounded like it was going to come apart at anything over 60mph.  Maybe that's just the way they sound, and there was nothing to worry about.  The drivetrains couldn't be very much different between the Mantas and the GT's.

I grew up in St Louis, MO.  When I was a teenager, there were a lot of Opels running around STL, and I've always had a soft spot in my heart for them, even the funky Kadett sedans and wagons.  There was one shop in particular that was the "go to" spot for Opel goodness (I've long since forgotten the name of the shop).  Whenever I see an Opel for sale locally, it always causes me to think about buying another one.

Anyway, the videos are great, and give me a better idea of what to expect next summer, in my inaugural trip to Bonneville.  The truck I'm building will compete in the H/DT class, which will be a little slower than what you achieved in the Opel GT.  I found it interesting to see that you were pretty close to top speed after the first measured mile (107mph in the second video).

Keep up the excellent work, and thanks again for the videos.

Steve.

Here is a video of our 3 runs that ended with a 194.12 mph B license run. This is in B gas roadster, 29 ford highboy that is on a 32 frame with a 427 chevy bracket motor.

Steve, thanks, and the Manta and GT were similar, except the massive trunk space in the Manta, 4 usable seats, and a decent front suspension. But the motor and driver train were nearly identical.

Here it is, the last of the series. There's more ambiance in this one (watching other cars take off while waiting for our turn to run), then the run where the engine starts to go away. Nothing dramatic. No explosions or fireballs. It just starts getting wimpy. -- https://vimeo.com/49892259

Here are a couple videos from my Buell.

The first run is a 207 qualifing run on a 201 record.  It is nearly perfect.  You can hear the engine tapping the rev limiter in the 2-3 mile.

The second one is the attempt at the return in the morning.  This was Tuesday morning.  The wind was blowing and we held to the back of the line of return runs and just as we got up there the wind died down.  But about 1.75 miles out, a gust caught me and pushed me way right causing me to get out of the throttle.

Not knowing that the return run speed had to be in the same mile, I got back in it and ran the 3-4.  This was almost a big mistake.  The lower right fastener on the tail section failed, causing the tail to flap in the wind at about 198 mph.  You can see the bike weave just as the 4 sign comes into view.

That is a very different world, 200+ mph on 2 wheels, from ours.

Our DVD, for the team and friends of the team.

Loved this car! Video doesn't really do it the justice...

Kinda surprised with all the cameras I saw out there that there aren't more photos popping up everywhere... Where are all the pics I saw being shot?

Jeff, what sprocket sizes did you run out there... We ran a 21/45 and couldn't get into the throttle more than 80% without spinning the tire...granted your aero is better than ours on a naked bike but yer runs sound really solid
