Planing first trip to Elmo
« on: September 10, 2012, 04:24:03 PM »
Just a quick question for you all.  Im coming from the Phoenix area and was thinking of either the Oct or November race. Ive been to Pomona many times for the NHRA World Finals and I know Pomona has a tendency of getting rain in November. Is that the case with Elmo being just an hour or so away? Hate to get over there, setup camp on the lake bed ( yep, im gonna rough it my first trip LOL ) and get dumped on and not see any cars run. Thanks in advance

Frankie

We have had rainouts in both months in the past. Best thing to do is check the SCTA website for updated track conditions/race info as you get close to the meet dates. The best deal is November because it's a two day meet...... More "bang for your (travel) buck" so to speak. It's also cooler in November. Weather on the high desert (El Mirage) can be very different than the weather in the LA Basin (Pomona). I never rely on forecasted conditions in the basin to predict what the weather will be on the high desert and visa versa. Best to check them independently. The Natl Weather Service with give you forecasts for both:

El Mirage State Vehicle Recreation Weather: http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/El+Mirage+State+Vehicular+Recreation+Area+CA+CAELSRVA:13

Pomona: http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/Pomona+CA+USCA0889:1:US
