Enderle Mechanical Injection and Blow Through Supercharger?
« on: September 08, 2012, 11:42:51 AM »
I currently have a 6-71 blower and an Enderle Bugcatcher injection setup.

We are striving hard to get this old engine to propel us 200 MPh, so we need to milk every HP out of it we can. Therefore, I'm contemplating switching over to a Procharger style supercharger, to gain some of the 'parasitic drag loss HP' back- we need everything we can get!

Has anyone ever seen, or have experience with, converting a bugcatcher style setup to a blow through system? I've been thinking about it, and it seems like it would be a doable thing.
With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine. However, this is not necessarily a good idea. It is hard to be sure where they are going to land, and it could be dangerous sitting under them as they fly overhead. -- RFC 1925

We ran an Enderly port injection with intercooler box on top for years on the 222 Camaro. our best time
was 288mph with a 279 exit speed.
We had lots of problems setting the butterflys evenly [ not as much with a bugcatcher], but the biggest problem was priming it to start with different lengths of lines to port injectors some would get more fuel than others on start up. We even had a couple of copper lines above injector ports inside top of intercoole box with drilled holes aimed at inlet ports and an electric fuel pump. But we always had our fingers crossed that it would start.

You will have the same problem, you woun't be able to just squirt gas in the bugcatcher to start as you do now.

Go to Steve Morris Racing engines and look at videos of engines making over 2000 hp with one blow thru carb :-o

They could supply carb and info on blower size and tuning.

  Lot less headache with carb.

Also get a good sized intercooler.

I have a couple of Procharger 2700 cfm D threes if funds are short on new one.

I would bet that what JL 222 really meant to say is get a REALLY BIG INTERCOOLER---with really big WATER PUMPS :-D

Well, we have a 22 gallon chiller tank! :-D

JL222, thanks for the info! From a pure HP and speed view point, would you run the 6-71 roots blower, or the Procharger, on our engine?

Buddy,
Wouldn't you be ahead to use a single large butterfly on the inlet of the Pro-Charger and then put the injector nozzles in your manifold at each inlet port.  This is the "classical" mechanical injection set up and gives you the greatest chance at being able to control the fuel to each cylinder. Obviously all of the problems associated with running the injectors down stream of the blower will apply but there are lots of engines that have run this set up and made good power, Offys and early Cosworths at Indy for a couple. I know that I always wave Stewart Van Dyne's  flag but he has probably more experience with this type of mechanical injector system than anybody around, give him a call.

Rex, you haven't steered me wrong yet, so I'll call him!

Buddy.. no way would I run a roots blower, ''on gas''  the centrifugals and tubos are much more efficient at
making boost. Meaning the air temperture is a bunch lower giving denser air and they don't take as much hp to turn.

Rex... been there done that. When we were running two blowers I had two throttle bodies ahead of blowers, thinking this will solve our idle ptoblems. It did but sucked oil past blower seals :x
Got 2 extra Acufab 4'' throttle bodies also.
