The story is that if you want to run for an SCTA record in a motorcycle class you need a motorcycle engine.

Gasoline or "any approved liquid fuel".

Feel free to do anything else, just don't plan on running for an SCTA record.
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

Yeah, that's the rub, isn't it...  but I'd like to have a shot at a record, if I build it, trailer it, and ride it.  To my way of thinking, if it isn't at least a contender in its class, it's a waste of time.  But if it can't run in any class, that takes some of the fun out of it (at least for me).

You could start your own event

Or follow Dennis Manning and make a motor strictly for use in your bike......or anyone else that would like to own one.

Wendover is always happy to accommodate new business.......one at a time.

A turbodiesel car engine ran at BUB.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

There a production diesel street bike that runs the MB 3-cyl DI turbo engine.

Cool!  Thanks for that link.

Of course, if the 'boss hogg' with the chev engine isn't a "motorcycle" engine, I don't expect a Smart car engine would be, either...

But, oh well.

Since the rule book does not state anything about the engine being offered in a production motorcycle, but does state " motorcycle" engine, I would think that would exclude any engine that was not manufactured by a motorcycle manufacture, just my opinion through.

I would have thought once an engine is fitted to a motorcycle, it is a motorcycle engine?

It is puzzling why the rule exists.  Motorcycle engines aren't limited by the same problems that plague gas engines, namely fuel economy, emissions, or torque requirements.

Does anyone really believe that a 800cc car engine has a huge advantage over a 750cc roadrace engine?  Right.

How about a 3000cc car engine vs. dual supercharged bottle-fed busa engines?  OK.

The only thing I can think of is someone putting a Formula One engine in a motorcycle.

Guys with enough money to run F1 probably think LSR is a bit silly.  Ever see a Marlboro sponsored LSR car?
