Trying to get my SW album ready but just had to post something I found in the background! Looks like a speed crazy German in a contraband fire suit!  :-o :-D

Diesel, Not being familliar with turbo motors, I was wondering where the EGT reading was taken?
Is it after the turbo cause I can't believe it would have and pistons left if it was close to the exhaust ports.
Anyway that is one impressive car.  Congrat's, Bob

Bob, we're pulling EGT right at the exhaust port, and have them protruding up to almost the center of the air stream.   I know a lot of guys see that video and ask me how the motor is holding together but that's pretty common temps when sampling at that location on a turbo+gas application.  Remember that we're running the high-zoot turbo/blower gas which burns slow, it's still burning a bit as it goes out the exhaust.  In this app I am fighting running enough timing advance to keep EGTs down without lifting heads (I monitor coolant pressure with the computer to keep an eye on preignition/detonation).  I did go to Dynoroom (Mike LeFevers) just to have an expert's opinion and he agrees we're in the ballpark on the tune so far.  Mike was doing 300mph turbo+gas door cars back before it was the hip thing to do :-)

Looking at spark plugs, I ended up using an NGK BR10EG plug, a 10 heat range, the heat was just above the bend in the ground strap, I might go one range colder if we start turning up the boost.   Plug reading seems to confirm we're close on the tuneup.  The same set of plugs were happy in both our qualifier and return runs, but on our 5th pass increasing the power a little, EGTs went cold on a cylinder and it ended up being a plug that died electrically (no spark?  no cracked porcelain and no burning off the ground strap, etc.).  On that 5th pass we logged 243mph at the quarter which is by far our best speed there, so we were on a maybe 300mph pass (in the fifth) but he shut it down when the warning light came on as the EFI system saw the one hole go cold.

x100, John is a great tuner and that car runs smooth and strong.  dieselgeek, I don't believe it we agree on something   :-o

I'd still prefer an infomercial over ego stroking a project that hasn't even moved under its own power... If you have a problem with my posts on the Target 550 Build Diary, send me a PM and we will talk about it. Tom G.

I love the USA. How much longer will we be a free nation?

Asking questions is one's only way of getting answers.

Note the pink flamingo on my favorite cheeseburger deluxe with fries and a malted milk of all the Buicks.
